Automotive equipment manufacturer withdraws from the Turkish market

Autoliv, known for its products for the automotive industry, has decided to initiate the process of ending its operations in Turkey due to production capacity exceeding current market needs and a decline in demand on a global scale. According to the company's statement, the production of steering wheels, airbags, and seat belts, in particular, will be gradually transferred from Turkey to its other facilities in the region by 2028.

Following the rapid changes in the global automotive sector and analyses conducted on the production needs of the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) region, it was noted that sustainability in the production lines in Turkey has weakened. In the assessment made by Autoliv management, it was determined that the current capacity would remain above demand in the long term.

Within the scope of the decision, the majority of the employees working at the facilities in Turkey, where approximately 2,200 people are employed, will be laid off. The company plans to continue its production activities at its factories located in other EMEA countries.

The first half of 2028 is projected as the date for Autoliv to completely cease its production in Turkey. During this process, the company will step-by-step withdraw its operations, reduce its current workforce, and redirect its production capacity to alternative facilities in the region.

This wave of closures, which comes with the effect of the weakening trend in the industrial sector, is expected to create a new gap both in the labor market and in Turkey's automotive supply chain.
