Kia has moved to terminate production of the Niro EV model due to the impact of the transformation in the electric vehicle market. This decision, which emerged with the company's official statement on March 12, 2026, marks the beginning of a significant shift in the brand's electric vehicle strategy. The Niro EV, which was introduced at the 2018 Paris Motor Show and promised a range of approximately 400 kilometers, is coming off the assembly lines after a seven-year journey.

It is stated that the slowdown in global electric vehicle sales and the technological restructuring process in the automotive industry are effective behind the decision. It is observed that major manufacturers such as Ford and Honda have also been updating their strategies in the sector recently.

Kia is determined in its plan to shift its electric vehicle portfolio to new generation models built on fully electric infrastructures instead of older platforms. In this process, the complete disappearance of the Niro family is not in question. The production and sale of the brand's hybrid and plug-in hybrid Niro models will continue. Thus, the Niro name will continue to live on, especially in countries with growing hybrid markets like Turkey. The cessation of production of the electric Niro EV also has the potential to change the balance in the Turkish market.
