Screen goes black suddenly: Mercedes recalls 144,000 cars

German automaker Mercedes-Benz has decided to recall 144,000 cars globally due to a critical software error detected in the infotainment systems of its vehicles. The decision follows the identification of malfunctions such as unexpected restarts of multimedia screens and the screen going black while driving. The company points out that technical glitches in these new models, where many controls and driving data are managed via the digital screen, could negatively affect driver safety.

According to independent expert commentary, the screen suddenly turning off while driving can lead to driver distraction, which could result in a loss of control. There are concerns that such situations could cause accidents.

The statement indicated that the recall process covers many popular Mercedes models produced between 2024 and 2026. The list includes the AMG GT, C-Class, E-Class, SL-Class, CLE-Class, and GLC-Class, as well as the performance-oriented C63 S E Performance.

The company stated that it has been trying to resolve the problem via remote updates since last year, but the issue could not be completely fixed in all vehicles. Therefore, a physical service call has been initiated for the relevant models. While emphasizing that no traffic accidents or injuries related to the malfunction have been reported to date, Mercedes-Benz advised customers to contact authorized service centers as soon as possible.

Company representatives state that the problems have been resolved in the vast majority of the recalled cars thanks to updated software, and that the goal is to eliminate similar risks by inspecting the remaining vehicles.
