Trade Ministry rains down fines on electric vehicle advertisements

The Advertising Board, operating under the Ministry of Trade, has implemented a new action plan against electric vehicle advertisements. At the 358th meeting of the Ministry of Trade Advertising Board held on June 12, 2025, a total of 103 files were evaluated, primarily focusing on advertisements for electric automobiles. Of these files, 92 were found to be in violation of regulations; in this context, it was decided to impose a total administrative fine of 15 million 846 thousand 894 TL along with an advertising suspension penalty, and to implement access blocking measures for 8 files.

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH ELECTRIC VEHICLE ADVERTISEMENTS?

In recent applications, it was determined that some manufacturers and sellers presented vehicle range information using WLTP data obtained under laboratory conditions, and promoted this information in a misleading manner without reflecting actual usage conditions.

RANGE INFORMATION IN ELECTRIC VEHICLES

The Advertising Board will require that the test standard used to determine range information be clearly stated in advertisements to prevent the deception of consumers.

?It will be ensured that it is clearly stated that the range value may change in actual use.

?Information that factors such as air temperature, driving style, and the use of air conditioning and heaters directly affect the range will be shared with the consumer.
