14 days left! How much will the AKP's vote share drop in the local elections?

With 14 days remaining until the local elections, concerns over 'erosion' have emerged within the AKP.

The AKP, which reached a vote share of 44.3 percent in the 2018 local elections, fell to 36.3 percent in the 2023 elections.

According to Duvar's behind-the-scenes report, calculations are being made that this vote share for the AKP could fall even further due to the influence of new parties, primarily the New Welfare Party (Yeniden Refah Partisi)

"COULD INCREASE EROSION WITHIN THE PARTY"

It is also being discussed that the CHP will maintain its 30 percent vote share from the 2019 elections nationwide. In Ankara's political circles, it is pointed out that in this scenario, the two parties' vote shares would draw closer to each other, with comments being made that, “A possible drop in AK Party votes and the narrowing gap with the CHP could undermine the new constitution debate expected after the elections. It becomes difficult to initiate a constitutional debate in a landscape where AK Party votes are falling. Uncertainty regarding Erdoğan's political future could also further increase the erosion within the party.”
