Allegations of 'post-Erdoğan' discomfort with Hakan Fidan within AKP: 'The Palace team is not pleased'
It has been alleged that a group within the AKP is uncomfortable with Hakan Fidan, who served as head of the MIT for 13 years and is now the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Gazete Pencere columnist Nuray Babacan stated in her column today, "Fidan, who did not attract much attention after becoming Minister of Foreign Affairs, has carried out operations in the last few months to establish his own management style within the ministry. Everyone interpreted the change through the Foundation for Strengthening the Foreign Service, but in political circles, the operation carried out with the decree in April attracted more attention. Let us say that there are AKP members who are closely following the steps taken by Fidan, who has established his own intelligence unit within the ministry."
'PALACE TEAM IS UNCOMFORTABLE' ALLEGATION
"Hakan Fidan establishing intelligence units within the ministry and creating his own intelligence infrastructure did not please the Palace team within the party," said Babacan, adding the following:
DISCOMFORT REGARDING THE POST-ERDOĞAN ERA
"It is known that Fidan argues that foreign policy cannot be conducted independently of foreign intelligence and that this is necessary for the new era of diplomacy. Of course, this did not prevent rumors that he 'established his own intelligence unit.' Let us also say that while there are AKP members in the corridors who believe this is necessary, there are also those who are uncomfortable with Fidan gaining strength due to post-Erdoğan possibilities."
