Did that minister ask to be relieved of his duties? Will the cabinet change after the election?

10 Haber columnist Erdal Sağlam drew attention to the possibility of a cabinet reshuffle following the March 31 local elections.

Sağlam stated, "Personally, I do not think President Erdoğan will return to the economic policies of two years ago," adding that the possibility of Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek being dismissed is 'not something that can be risked.'

Sağlam also stated that the departure of Trade Minister Ömer Bolat is viewed as certain, saying the following:

MINISTER BOLAT ALLEGATION

"At the top of the list of names whose departure is viewed as certain is Trade Minister Ömer Bolat. According to some reports from the corridors, it is pointed out that Bolat, influenced particularly by exporters, has shown resistance to the tight monetary policies in practice, especially regarding exchange rates, and has even occasionally made statements and taken decisions contrary to economic policies.

'RUMORS HE ASKED TO BE RELIEVED'

Besides this, there are those who say that Ömer Bolat has complained that his ministry has greatly disrupted his own private business affairs, and that he therefore wants to leave. There are even rumors circulating in the corridors that he has conveyed the matter to the President and asked to be relieved of his duties. Alongside Minister Bolat, although less is said about them, the names of a few other ministers whom the President considers unsuccessful are also being mentioned."

DMM DENIED

In a written statement issued by the Presidency's Directorate of Communications Center for Combating Disinformation, it was stated: "The claim appearing in some media outlets that 'Trade Minister Ömer Bolat wanted to leave his post and conveyed his request to the President' is not true. Trade Minister Ömer Bolat has been continuing his work without interruption since the day he took office. The allegations that Minister Bolat wants to leave his post because it disrupts his private business affairs do not reflect the truth. Do not give credence to manipulative news reports made under the guise of 'insider information' aimed at creating distrust in the markets."
