Fatih Altaylı claims: “A surprise may come from the IYI Party!” “Regardless of party affiliation…”
Fatih Altaylı, who wrote about the reflections within the IYI Party following Meral Akşener’s statements that they would not form an alliance with the CHP and would field their own candidates, wrote, “The idea that ‘In places where we are not strong, we should be able to support candidates who do not conflict with our voters, regardless of party affiliation’ is dominant within the party.”
Journalist Fatih Altaylı reported on the reflections within the party regarding IYI Party Chair Meral Akşener’s announcement that they would not form an alliance with the CHP and would field their own candidates in Ankara and Istanbul, in his column today titled “A surprise may come from the IYI Party.”
Altaylı stated that within a group in the party not too far from Akşener, the idea that “In places where we are not strong, we should be able to support candidates who do not conflict with our voters, regardless of party affiliation” is dominant. Altaylı expressed that those who advocate this idea said, “In the last local elections, we supported AK Party candidates in some places, and even MHP candidates in others. We did this for the benefit of the country, without forming an institutional cooperation with these parties. This time, we should be able to support CHP candidates in some places, and AKP candidates who provide good service in others.”
“SUPPORTING AN AKP MAYOR…”
Fatih Altaylı said that there is also a view within the party that “We should support the incumbent AKP mayor whom we find successful in Konya, likewise the incumbent AKP mayor in Kars, Ekrem İmamoğlu if he is nominated in Istanbul, and Mansur Yavaş in Ankara,” and noted that the sentiment “It is not logical not to support at the local level the two names we deemed worthy of the presidency” is also being voiced.
