Fatih Altaylı's neighbors in prison draw attention

The cell neighbors of journalist and YouTuber Fatih Altaylı, who has been detained at Silivri Prison since June 23, in the high-security F-Type prison are drawing attention. Among Altaylı's neighbors is the terrorist Abdulgadir Masharipov, who murdered 39 people at the Reina nightclub in Ortaköy on New Year's Eve in 2017.

Guards state that if Masharipov were to be released, he could carry out similar acts.

Altaylı's other neighbors are DHKP-C inmates. In a letter, Altaylı stated that some of these inmates had begun a hunger strike and that the situation was distressing. His visitors report that Altaylı's morale is good, but that he cannot be fully well due to his restricted freedom. It is reported that the number of daily visitors has reached up to 11 and that visitors arrive even late at night.

DECISION TO STEP AWAY FROM POLITICS

Journalist Bahar Feyzan had reported that Altaylı decided to step away from politics and focus solely on science and interview programs. Altaylı will appear before the judge again on November 26, and if he is not released by that date, his detention period will reach 5.5 months.

MASHARİPOV'S TESTIMONY

Altaylı's neighbor, 42-year-old ISIS member Abdulgadir Masharipov, is a citizen of Uzbekistan and was sentenced to 40 consecutive life sentences. In his testimony, Masharipov stated that he did not regret his actions and that he was taking revenge. The terrorist, who was determined to have entered Turkey via the Iranian border, had said that he viewed his actions as retribution.
