Striking behind-the-scenes claim regarding Erdoğan: 'The goal is lifelong power...'
Describing the operations against CHP-run municipalities as a "political siege," CHP officials have brought forward a striking claim regarding President and AKP Chairman Erdoğan. According to CHP officials, Erdoğan's goal is to remain in power for life.
CHP officials have alleged that the successive operations targeting municipalities in Adana, Antalya, and Adıyaman were "orchestrated for political reasons." Speaking to the Cumhuriyet newspaper, CHP sources stated that the operations were not coincidental and that the government is attempting to silence the CHP and include it in the constitutional amendment process as a "docile opposition."
In assessments made within the party, the remark, "Erdoğan wants to remain in power for life. To achieve this, he is trying to build a CHP that does not leave Ankara, does not object, and says yes when it sits at the table," drew attention.
The officials issued a challenge, stating, "Even if you put us in jail, we will not be the kind of opposition you want." Noting that rallies will continue in the coming period, party officials recorded that visits to the provinces where operations were conducted will continue and the public will be informed "on the ground."
Furthermore, stating that they are planning major actions for November 2 to demand the ballot box, CHP members said, "We will increase the tone of our firmness, because this is now a struggle for democracy."
MYK MET IN EXTRAORDINARY SESSION
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel called the Central Executive Committee (MYK) to an extraordinary meeting following the successive operations over the weekend. In the assessments made after the meeting, it was emphasized that the operations signal a "new threshold."
Party officials commented, "On March 19, they tried to seize Istanbul by arresting our presidential candidate. The public did not remain silent on this. Now they have started a new wave of attacks, but they will not find a response again."
“THEY KNOW THEY HAVE LOST”
CHP sources stated that they view the operations as a continuation of the March 19 process. In the statement, which noted, "When what they did did not work, they increased the dosage this time," it was argued that the government is using state resources to suppress the opposition because it has lost public support.
The officials also emphasized that they are prepared for the possibility of an early election, saying, "They know they have lost, which is why they are trying to run away from the ballot box."
Party officials stated that solidarity within the opposition front is of great importance during this process. Pointing to the importance of the visits made to the CHP by the Zafer Party and the DEM Party, the officials stated, "In the coming period, we will be careful to present an image of unity among opposition parties. Only in this way can we spoil Erdoğan's game."
