Will Minister Yerlikaya be the IMM candidate? 'Soylu also supports it...'

Journalist Tolga Şardan wrote a behind-the-scenes piece in his column at T24 about Ali Yerlikaya, whose name has come to the fore for the IMM mayoral candidacy.

Şardan stated that while Yerlikaya wants to continue his ministerial duties, he would follow orders if Erdoğan requested it, noting that 'an order cuts through iron.'

Stating that Ali Yerlikaya is the prominent name in the AKP's preliminary polls in Istanbul, Şardan wrote that Yerlikaya has postponed many of his meetings to later dates.

Reporting that Yerlikaya continued his contacts in Istanbul over the weekend, Şardan wrote that Yerlikaya recently met with MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli at the Turkish Grand National Assembly and subsequently visited MHP Deputy Chairman İzzet Ulvi Yönter.

"SOYLU ALSO SUPPORTS IT"

Şardan further stated that former minister Süleyman Soylu also supports Yerlikaya's candidacy, and that if Yerlikaya were to resign to run for office, the most likely successor for Interior Minister would be Deputy Minister Münir Karaloğlu.
