Starbucks to downsize store and staff numbers

Starbucks is preparing to take significant steps within the framework of a 1 billion dollar restructuring program. According to a new statement from the company, many stores in North America will be closed, and approximately 900 employees will lose their jobs.

By the end of the 2025 fiscal year, the number of Starbucks stores across the US and Canada will decrease by 1 percent, falling to 18,300. However, management stated that this contraction is temporary and that they have goals to increase the number of stores again in the future and to renovate a total of one thousand branches.

Following evaluations, stores that are not operating profitably have been placed on the closure list. CEO Brian Niccol is developing new strategies to make the company an attractive destination once again.

In a message sent to employees by Niccol on Thursday, the following statements were included: "The initial results of the improvements made in stores show that customers are visiting more frequently, staying longer, and sharing more positive feedback."

Following the contraction in in-store sales that the company has experienced for a year and a half, it aims to increase customer satisfaction by improving amenities such as seating areas and power outlets.

STARBUCKS IS SIMPLIFYING ITS MENU

The fact that Starbucks' recently announced third-quarter financial results fell below expectations is pushing the company toward radical changes. The increasing competition from smaller chains that offer faster and more affordable alternatives, which threaten its market share particularly in the US and China, is among the main reasons for the strategy change.

The company is working to reduce complexity in the menu to both shorten wait times and make room for new products that align with consumer habits. It is stated that with the strengthening of the healthy eating trend in recent times, "sugar-free" options and protein-containing beverages have also taken their place on the menu.
