Greetings,
Free-thinking, free-conscienced, beautiful people.
Continuing to look through the mirror of art…
What appears to us today from the mirror of art,
Is leisure time again…
Let us not get worked up immediately.
When we say leisure time, we did not mean empty time…
We meant time filled with curiosity.
We meant time filled not just with looking, but with seeing.
Curiosity, looking, and seeing when you look.
If you cannot see, does the leisure time fill up?
Looking and seeing in the symbolic.
Geometry is a symbolic language,
Our fellow citizen born in Halicarnassus, Herodotus, whom Cicero called the father of history, says in his work, which is accepted as the first written history book: Because the Nile River constantly flooded, the issue of who owned the land created problems. Since this emerging property issue caused problems in tax collection, measurements had to be renewed every year.
That is why geometry emerged, he says.
Are you saying, "Get to the point, professor"?
We are getting there immediately, sir.
So, what does Aristotle say in his work titled Metaphysics? If you are ready, I will write it down.
I know you will be very surprised, you will say "no way," I am sure you will.
I am writing it, sir. He says: There is a priestly class in Egypt, and the priestly class has a lot of leisure time… There are priests and they have a lot of leisure time, he says. You couldn't believe it, could you?
He says a few more things. Let us write them down so you can believe it, sir. Let us write so your astonishment increases, right?
Geometry, as a root, means measuring land; he asks, can the science of geometry ever emerge from just measuring land?....
What was Aristotle saying? Priests have a lot of leisure time. But he says they did not leave the inside of that time empty....
Wisdom is something else, dear readers; look at the priests of thousands of years ago, and then look at the ones today....
Let us say "anyway," just in case....
Leisure time is not actually empty, is it?
The science of physics also says there is no void in the universe. Then you are saying, can there be a void in time, which does not exist in the universe? Of course not...
Well, then what is your problem? Are you saying, "Why are you confusing us?"
Exactly for that reason, to confuse you… Your mind must be confused so that you will pause.
You will ask, what is happening, how is it happening, why is it happening, where do I stand in all this?
It is precisely for this reason; humans have established their relationship with the universe by defining themselves as the subject and the universe as the object. In this subject-object relationship, while human consciousness experiences the universe through its senses, it has wanted to grasp the external reality it experiences within a unity and wholeness, and has made it visible by interpreting the part-whole relationship with a symbolic language. These symbolic languages it made visible consist of numbers, alphabets, geometry, mathematics, art, and the like.
What we call leisure time will remain as empty time unless we fill the inside of that time with our experiences, thoughts, interpretations, comprehensions, creations, and conceptualizations.
Only then will meaning not be born, it cannot be born.
If the relationship we establish with the universe as the subject preparing meaning for birth is what it is, then leisure time is what prepares the suitable ground for us to give birth to meaning. It is worth reminding once again, not time left empty, of course…
Because in order to see what we are looking at, that is, to grasp it with its qualitative and quantitative characteristics, we must stop, focus on it, and be able to make time the possibility of our act of thinking. Otherwise, we must not forget that a person who cannot see anything when looking in the mirror will exist with the inevitable fate of the state of nothingness, the state of unconsciousness they will experience in the face of the universe.
In short, this thing we call civilization, this civilization exists thanks to those who can fill the inside of this leisure time.
You are saying, "The mirror of art remained without art again," right?
It does not, sir, it does not; would we ever leave the mirror of art without art? We would not…
Now we are laying the groundwork.
By filling the inside of leisure time, we will talk about a painter who reached the level of seeing from looking, who made the mountain he saw the midwife of the birth of modern art, and who analyzed the symbolic geometric language in nature.
But not now, in our next article; as we always say, curiosity is good. It is very good, it reminds us who we are and whether we can fill the inside of our leisure time.
That is what Professor Abidin says.
What did Aristotle say? The Egyptian priests had a lot of leisure time and they had filled it with geometry.
You too, be curious, see when you look, and think about what you are filling your leisure time with.
Go ahead and say, "I have intended to fill my leisure time"....
Leisure time is also necessary, isn't it?
Until our next meeting, goodbye for now; right now and always, breathe with art, stay with art.
