The 'Ten Commandments' for those who use 'Artificial Intelligence'

Italy has become the first country in Europe to frame artificial intelligence with legislation. The new regulation does not merely set boundaries for the technology; it introduces criminal sanctions across a wide spectrum, from children to deepfake producers. The government defines this as a "return to the boundaries of public interest." In other words, artificial intelligence is no longer everyone's toy, but a power that must be regulated.

On this occasion, I am proposing a mental, if not legal, regulation: The 10 commandments to follow when using artificial intelligence.

1. Artificial intelligence should never be left uncontrolled.

A system that makes decisions on its own is like unchecked power. When humans succumb to the comfort of thinking, they quietly surrender the reins. This surrender eventually makes human intelligence lazy.

2. Hallucinations are not innocent.

The tendency of artificial intelligence to "make things up" is the same as a ten-year-old child denying they broke a vase. It writes stories to escape responsibility. Therefore, one must question every answer and ask, "Why are you saying this?"

3. Never delegate thinking.

The moment artificial intelligence becomes capable of thinking for us, we stop thinking. The essence of human intelligence is the reflex to question. We will think, and it will execute.

4. Protect your right to make decisions.

Artificial intelligence can offer you options, but the right to choose is yours. Leaving the decision to an algorithm means turning your will into code.

5. Do not trust data with an uncertain source.

Data is the raw material of intelligence. However, information whose source is not transparent does not grow intelligence, but rather delusion.

6. Privacy is the new measure of freedom in this age.

Every piece of information you share with artificial intelligence systems leaves a trace. That trace may one day appear before you as a shadow.

7. Balance emotionless intelligence with morality.

Intelligence takes a dangerous form when it is not limited by values. The sentence "I can do it" does not mean "I should do it."

8. Protect children.

The restriction Italy has introduced for those under 14 concerns child development as much as it does technology. A child growing up with artificial intelligence must first learn to play with it, and then learn how to protect themselves from it.

9. Reject non-transparent systems.

The decisions of artificial intelligence must be explainable. Otherwise, we create a society that only believes in results. This reduces science to the level of faith.

10. Remember: Artificial intelligence is a tool, not a master.

The new form of intelligence amplifies the old weaknesses of humanity. Those who manage it grow stronger; those who surrender to it fade away.

Therefore, the rule is simple: Use artificial intelligence, but never turn into it.
