Breaking the Vicious Cycle: Focus on the Tools, Take Action!

Our agenda is quite busy. Especially the agenda of the opposition. 

Secularism is in danger. There are heaps of issues that can be addressed under this heading alone. Let's count a few: The religionization of values education, the dominance of loyalty over merit in the recruitment of public officials, the statements and actions of the Presidency of Religious Affairs…

National unity is in danger. The nation is being redefined every day. Yesterday's traitors are declared heroes today. Nationalism is being trampled upon. Meanwhile, some are producing Nazi rhetoric from Turkish nationalism. The agenda is busy. 

Neoliberal policies and rhetoric are clashing with publicist rhetoric. 

In short, culture wars are ongoing. Instead of class wars, the dominance of culture wars is being established. Almost every conflict is read through the lens of culture. 

Even though class wars are experienced every day, there are countless issues that cover them up. 

Mafia, tabloid, and property disputes tire the jaws of the "poor." 

In short, the agenda is truly busy. 

It is a great skill to turn all areas of struggle into cultural conflicts. The system is succeeding at this. Even if we argue morning and night, positions established through cultural identity do not change easily. 

In the face of these, bringing the issue to principles is the greatest danger. If you make the masses discuss principles, it becomes impossible to achieve unity or for the masses to gather for specific goals. 

So what is the solution?

Focusing on the issues where most of us agree. It is necessary to create concrete, short-term, result-oriented examples of struggle in those areas. In this way, it is possible both to win people over and to climb certain steps of a long struggle… 

I have been calling these examples of struggle "Micro-Struggle" for some time. 

"Protecting the homeland"? This is a very general ideal. When we do not make this concrete, we have neither a chance of success nor the ability to lead and manage people. 

We need concrete, short-term, and result-oriented examples of protecting the homeland. Do you want examples? Protecting olive groves, reclaiming public resources put up for sale, navigating our own coasts with our flag, preventing the actions of those who pollute our homeland…

Protecting secularism in education? Again, a very general ideal. However, it is only possible if one is in power. Although, even coming to power might not be enough. In that case, while so many of our teachers are struggling to make a living and so many people cannot enroll their children in schools due to exorbitant prices, it is time to establish scientific and secular education right now. How? Immediately, by establishing these schools directly. By establishing schools through crowdfunding, cooperatives, associations, and foundations. 

Is a food crisis on the horizon? Then we must establish direct production farms. 

This method, of course, cannot be applied in every field. For instance, while the justice system has collapsed, it is not possible to establish our own justice system. However, the solution to quite a few problems can be started immediately. It must be started. Because we are buried within these problems. 

The survival conditions for a family of four living in big cities have become terribly severe. That family needs to eat healthily, children need to receive a scientific and secular education, and they need to live in a healthy environment. This need is realistic, current, and urgent. 

Tunceli or Dersim? 

Move on, sir. These are empty issues. We talk morning and night and eat each other up. Meanwhile, none of our problems get solved.
