Municipalities run by the CHP, and even some run by the AKP, are establishing municipal daycare centers. This is wonderful! While the fees for these daycare centers are lower than the market rate, we can say they are of very high quality. The daycare centers of the Çankaya Municipality, in particular, are fantastic. This shows that municipalities can indeed establish educational institutions.
The Ankara Metropolitan Municipality established a digital zoo on the Atatürk Forest Farm grounds. This shows it is possible. There are cheap, high-quality, and eco-friendly ways to contribute to the education of our children.
Municipalities, both from the ruling party and the opposition, are able to open software courses for our youth. Many of them are not bad at all in terms of quality.
Vocational training courses have been open for a long time. We have many people who have gained a profession through these courses. This shows it is possible. Municipalities can take a hand in education, and when they do, they can be quite successful.
It is common knowledge that the AKP has turned education into a trial-and-error mess over the last twenty years, ruining it. This situation may lead some of us to believe that the previous education system was something truly remarkable.
I remember the education system of the previous era very clearly. The course materials are public. Anyone who wants to can look at them. The education back then was neither secular, nor scientific, nor free. It was perhaps even worse than today in terms of rote learning. We may disagree about the past era, but I assume we are in agreement that the current situation is bad. If that weren't the case, would even the AKP change ministers after every election?
Let's return to our topic. Yes, municipalities can take a hand in education. I hope they do. That is my expectation. Because there is a need.
In the current system, teachers are burning out and cannot make ends meet. Our children are not receiving an education. Families are anxious. Our system cannot even teach basic Turkish or mathematics, let alone provide our children with a profession.
By taking advantage of the AKP's destruction of the education system, this time we can provide truly scientific and secular education. The Çankaya Municipality can lead the way in this regard. Under the leadership of the Çankaya Municipality, secondary education institutions could be established that are fee-based but relatively cheap, providing scholarships to successful students. In fact, this time we are not limited by the AKP's curriculum. Schools could be established that provide truly scientific education, raise individuals with professions in line with the country's needs, and perhaps most importantly, are free from drugs and gangs. If the CHP can postpone its internal squabbles and decide on a mayoral candidate, my biggest request from them is to establish these schools. Thus, we will have taken ownership of our homeland and our youth.
Multi-lingual, multi-cultural, scientific, safe, and age-appropriate educational institutions can be established. Moreover, they do not all have to be uniform. One could adopt the Waldorf system, another the French school, another the Anglo-Saxon school, and a courageous one could even adopt a village/city institute model suitable for our age. We must raise young people who can mend their own clothes, perform repairs, engage in agriculture, but most importantly, use their minds and logic. The shortest way to achieve this is to create the right education and training models. Otherwise, if we wait for the day when everything will be rosy and power will be transferred to the "revolutionaries" or "modern" people, we might be "a little" too late. What do you say? How about we don't leave this for after the revolution?
