The Solution Is Right Now!

One of the ailments of the traditional left is viewing every problem as part of a grand solution project and postponing solving the problem until "after the revolution." Of course, problems are interrelated, and there are issues that require a total solution. However, the solution to some problems can be started immediately, and it must be.

It is well known to anyone with a high sensitivity to secularism that secularism has long since been abolished in public educational institutions. Evolution is out of the curriculum, critical thinking skills have been diluted, science education has become outdated, and ultimately, moral issues have been completely surrendered to Sharia. While the number of private educational institutions is increasing rapidly, the arbitrariness in the curriculum bothers us all. Whether one has a sensitivity to secularism or not, the failure in every measurable area of education and training is evident.

So, what should be done? The traditional answer: We must make a revolution. How wonderful! I would wholeheartedly love to join this revolution, though I do not know how to carry it out. However, there are things that can be done right now. Wouldn't it be a bad idea to try those first?

Local governments that we consider to belong to the "opposition" can open daycare centers. By establishing companies through municipalities, many economic activities can be entered into. In this case, we can open educational institutions through local governments or directly through the organization of citizens. While the AKP has made many changes to the curriculum possible, we can certainly provide secular, scientific, and contemporary education in the institutions we establish.

We can establish educational institutions now that are environmentally friendly, include dormitories, are not based on rote learning, provide scientific education, and, if possible, prepare young people for the sector. We also have the financial resources to carry out this educational activity.

One of the following options can be adopted to continue operations:

1. Education can be fee-based, and a certain number of scholarship students can be accepted.

2. Education can be fee-based, and students' debts can be credited or deferred payment options can be provided.

3. Education can start as fee-based and become completely free of charge as the institution generates resources.

4. Education can be provided free of charge from the very beginning.

Depending on the available resources, a transition from one of these options to another can also be made. It is necessary to start in places where there is the greatest need to establish these educational institutions. We can start in our cities that are victims of earthquakes (or rather, unplanned urbanization) or in large cities where educational activities are very expensive and many of our young people are left to their fate.

By building dormitories within these institutions and establishing schools in areas with low land rent, we can ensure operations under more humane conditions. Moreover, in this way, we can prepare graduates suitable for the intermediate staff needs our country is experiencing, or train young people who can engage in agriculture against the expected food crisis.

By establishing these institutions away from city centers and, if possible, in rural areas, we can also succeed in keeping our young people away from the drug quagmire that surrounds their lives. We can make a small contribution to helping our youth, who are practically paralyzed by social media and technology addiction, drug addiction, and in short, the cycle of numbness, to stand back up. Is there anyone holding us back? When the Metropolitan Municipalities of Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Aydın, Eskişehir, and Hatay, as well as many district municipalities, are in the hands of the opposition, and there are plenty of resources in the hands of the contemporary population living in these cities, what is stopping us from establishing institutions that will provide scientific and contemporary education? Why can't we achieve more than what terrorist organizations disguised as religious sects, which train militants in dark rooms in the remote corners of the country, have achieved?

These are the kinds of steps that all of us, whose hearts are crushed by the darkness that young people have fallen into, should demand. The solution! Right now! And if we can achieve this now, we can convince the public when we tell them we will achieve more. When we have so many resources at our disposal, won't they ask us what we will do when we come to power if we demand more? Those who do not use the resources they have cannot acquire more. As a former academic and a fresh attorney, I am ready to work with all my might to bring such a project to life.
