What didn't Atatürk foresee?
The future of the world, space, the universe, science, technology,
The World War II that was taking place at that time, the state of the world after the war, the United Nations, today's world politics, the economy, Turkey's foreign policy, everything.
He foresaw those who would tear down his statues, and those who would erect them.
It is endless to recount.
Not a day goes by without an attack on Atatürk. Not a day goes by without someone insulting him. Unfortunately, we are in a period where attacks on Atatürk have reached an extreme level.
Moreover, in the very country he saved and founded.
Anyway..
It was precisely at this moment that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto came to Turkey. At a time when everyone is disparaging Atatürk, he said, "When I was young, my icon, my hero was Atatürk." And he said this in the Turkish Parliament, where there are many who oppose Atatürk.
That wasn't enough; he also said that he has a statue of Atatürk in his home and office.
“When I was young, I had an icon, someone I admired; my hero, my icon was Mustafa Kemal Atatürk,” he said.
And he continued as follows;
“Not just in Indonesia. I am talking about the global south. I am talking especially about developing countries. In all these countries, Mustafa Kemal is an idol and an example, a symbol of courage. He is an example of a leader, an example of a patriot. An example of never giving up. An example of perseverance.”
The Turkish press was surprised to hear these words.
We were surprised too. We were surprised, but Atatürk was not surprised;
He said this before he died, in 1937:
“The day will come when efforts may arise to forget me or make others forget me. There may be those who deny my ideas and disparage me. These may even be among those I considered close and trusted. But the seeds we have sown are so essential and strong that these ideas will return from India, from Egypt, and their fruitful results will fill hearts again.”
Oh, great Atatürk.
You are so great that, even though 90 years have passed, how did you see these days? And at a time when everyone is struggling and making others struggle to forget.
His ideas returned from India, from Egypt, and came back again.
The President of Indonesia stood up and spoke about Atatürk from the parliamentary podium. He said, “Not just in Indonesia. I am talking about the global south. I am talking especially about developing countries. In all these countries, Mustafa Kemal is an idol and an example, a symbol of courage.”
Those great visions of the great Atatürk came forth from Indonesia at a time when no one expected it.
It filled hearts with warmth.
While those of today cannot see what lies ahead, Atatürk saw a hundred years into the future.
