Are you aware of the danger!

It is worth writing this without beating around the bush.

If Turkey is currently speeding toward an abyss like a truck with failed brakes under the administration of a political Islamist regime, Europe bears a huge share of the responsibility for this.

Do not be fooled by their posturing as if they are defending universal values such as human rights, democracy, the rule of law, etc., or their grandiloquent rhetoric... 

When you look at them from afar, you might think they attribute sanctity to these concepts. 

However, as soon as the issue touches their own interests, their hypocritical faces are revealed.

The know-it-alls in Brussels once linked Turkey's democratic standards to the number of civilian members in the National Security Council.

They claimed that the more civilian members there were in the National Security Council, the more democratic Turkey would be. 

It was written about in newspapers page after page and debated for days on news channels.

Should the number of military and civilian members be equal, or should the number of civilian members be one step higher...

Today, even the crows are laughing, but these and similar regulations, made because the European Union wanted them, were fed to the nation as democracy reforms in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

In the end, by paving the way for political Islamists who had no share in democratic culture under the pretext of eliminating military tutelage in Turkey, and by giving all kinds of support to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his cronies, they caused us to anchor ourselves to a neo-Hamidian regime, as Ersin Kalaycıoğlu put it.

There is neither democracy, nor human rights, nor the rule of law left in the country!

Those who stirred things up in those days with the Copenhagen political criteria are now watching, with the support they provided, as Turkey turns into a typical Middle Eastern country governed by neo-patrimonial sultanism. 

Because it suits them.

Let us not keep those who ask what will come after such an introduction in suspense for too long!

We will address the refugee issue.

While writing the book "Syrian Migration" in 2018, I went to neighborhoods in Istanbul and Ankara where illegal immigrants lived.

They were right before our eyes in the cities we lived in, but for some reason, we were not seeing them.

A life was going on inside Turkey that had nothing to do with Turkey. 

They had established a new and largely untouchable economic and social order with their markets, grocers, hustlers, restaurants, barbers, jewelers, travel agencies, auto repair shops, cafes, kiosks; whatever you can think of.

They had even formed councils of elders that acted as a kind of court and mediator, resolving their debts and credit issues.

They had also begun to take control of human, gold, and drug smuggling. Among them were those who engaged in usury and established import-export companies.

Before the 2020s, this wound opened by Ahmet Davutoğlu's love for the Ikhwan (Muslim Brotherhood) could have been healed if no time had been wasted. With a rational approach, refugees could have been sent back to their own countries, Turkey's borders could have been brought under control, and strong and permanent agreements could have been made with neighbors on this issue.

They did not treat this wound knowingly and willingly.

It has now become gangrenous. 

The refugee issue has turned into a matter of survival that threatens all of Turkey.

In short, another dystopia has emerged within the dystopia we are living in under the AKP government!

At that time, in 2018, I wrote: “Syrians, who were in the position of being 'affected' at the beginning of the crisis, became an important 'influencer' within Turkey's social equation after 2011. Just like the process that began with Afghans fleeing the war in their country and migrating to Pakistan…”

Today, they are no longer just “influencers,” they have become almost “determinants.”

For the European Union, it is of vital importance that irregular migrants coming from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria, Iraq, and many African countries stay in Turkey, or to put it bluntly, are stored here.

Just like in the Migration Period, they fear that those flocking to Europe will destroy today's Western civilization.

And they are right!

Their political systems are being shaken to their foundations, their democracies built on liberal values are eroding, populist leaders are gaining power, and they are forced to face their racist pasts with the rise of the far-right.

The countries they exploited and left impoverished in the 18th and 19th centuries, whose people they enslaved, whose natural resources they consumed, and which they have practically stripped bare with neoliberal banditry in the 20th and 21st centuries, are now taking a kind of revenge.

At the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Hungarian Prime Minister Orban came out and said, “If it weren't for Turkey, Europe and the European Union countries would have completely lost their stability by now. Erdoğan, in a way, saved the European continent.”

We do not know if any of the listeners stood up and asked, “What do we care about Europe's stability, is it Erdoğan's job to save Europe?” but it would not be right to link the issue only to the European Union and blame only them. 

The stacking of refugees in Turkey suits Recep Tayyip Erdoğan just as much as it suits Germany, France, and Italy.

Using this important trump card in his hand, he forces leading European countries to support him, constantly feeding their fear by saying, "If I go, you are in dire straits."

The more Turkey is eroded, divided, and fragmented politically, economically, culturally, ethnically, and sect-wise through refugees, the more this situation serves the government's policy of turning the nation into an 'ummah'. 

Turkey is being given a kind of Salafi vaccine. The country is being Middle Easternized.

All of the refugees are natural supporters of the government, and those who receive citizenship are natural voters.

Let's say that one day, another Gezi-like popular movement emerges. 

The government will not hesitate to unleash them onto the streets, against the Turkish people, let no one have any doubt.

Those who read these issues a little bit from a psychosocial perspective know very well that refugees do not feel gratitude toward the countries they go to. As soon as they overcome the shock of the first days, they begin to grow hatred within themselves against that country and its society.

Those who want to see a concrete example of this can look at the events that took place in France last year. 

I personally witnessed the hatred that North Africans, who have lived in Marseille for three generations, feel toward France and the French.

Even the man's grandfather was born in Marseille, but he still feels like a North African!

France's efforts have yielded no results. Let alone assimilating, they do not even want to integrate into the society they live in.

Add to this in Turkey the Afghans who have experience in civil war, know how to handle weapons, and know how to kill people!

It will be inevitable for millions of armed people acting with such hatred to drag the country into a civil war.

These are just one aspect...

They are also seen as cheap labor.

In Anatolia, especially in provinces and districts where AKP votes are at their peak, you will witness them being employed for almost half the wages of Turks.

Insurance, personal rights, and so on are out of the question, of course! Employers are happy with the situation. The less money that comes out of their pockets, the better.

This also means unemployment for the young population in Turkey.

Thus, political Islamists, who see every path as permissible to stay in power, kill several birds with one stone.

Let us put aside those who still address refugees through the good intentions of my country's people, such as empathy, compassion, 'ansar' (helpers), 'muhajir' (migrants), etc.

But let us also underline with a thick pen that the non-governmental organizations funded by the European Union, which have taken on the task of creating public opinion to ensure that these people remain in Turkey, are in open betrayal of Turkey and the Turkish people.

This issue, which is of vital importance for Turkey, is not very much in the foreground during the election period.

However, as refugees become increasingly ghettoized, especially in large cities, and become a security problem by creating virtually liberated zones, this issue should have been on the agenda more.

As the main opposition party, the CHP is not passing a good test here either. 

It cannot handle such an important issue as it should. 

It cannot come before the public with clear, net, and strong messages. 

It is clear that minds are a bit confused within the party as well.

Let us give credit where it is due: the Zafer Party is far ahead in its policy regarding refugees. As it keeps the issue constantly on the agenda, it attracts the attention of voters with correct assessments and rational solution proposals. One should not be surprised if it makes a big surprise with the momentum it gained from this in the local elections.

Before concluding the article, let us also address those who try to label those who want refugees to return to their countries as racist. A society standing against such a demographic operation to protect itself is not racism or fascism.

The real fascism is supporting such an operation, whose service to whom and to what is very clear, and with that, we put a period to our article.
