And they are doing it knowingly and willingly.

With great ambition...

Let no one have any doubt about this.

This is the most important reason why they want to condemn us to living at the hunger threshold, to unhappiness, and to hopelessness!

Let us explain it as best we can.

With about a week left until 2025, the government is doing its best to make the country unlivable for those of us who try to make a living by earning a few pennies with the sweat of our brows, by piling hike upon hike.

Starting January 1st, the prices of everything, from needles to thread, will skyrocket.

Hikes, hikes, hikes...

They will take back with a shovel what they gave with a spoon.

The only thing the government hasn't taxed yet is the air we breathe.

They would do it if they could find an easy way, but for now, they are taking it slow. Otherwise, God forbid, someone might take to the streets and try to protest.

Since they are not sure if it will have a snowball effect, they are proceeding cautiously for now, just in case.

I wonder, will Mehmet Şimşek attempt something similar to the "poll tax" that Margaret Thatcher tried to introduce in the late 80s but had to withdraw due to massive public backlash?

We don't know, but it is a fact that they are recklessly sucking us dry to the bone.

They are likely just waiting for the right time to seize almost everything we earn with the sweat of our brows.

After all, there is no one speaking out.

Last month, the rate of increase in many items such as passports, driver's licenses, motor vehicle taxes (MTV), and income tax was announced as 43.93 percent.

But there wasn't much of an outcry.

Before my fellow citizens could even understand what was happening, we suddenly found ourselves discussing the Syria issue.

The mill of the country's agenda turns so fast that we suddenly find ourselves caught up in other issues.

Let's give credit where it's due: Tayyip and his cronies are masters at this.

They can lead the opposition to the water and bring them back thirsty.

But no matter what they do, the markets and bazaars are burning.

Inflation on the street is far, far higher than what TUIK (Turkish Statistical Institute) announces. Since last year, prices have doubled and in some products even tripled. Price tags change almost every day.

We are getting poorer at an incredible speed.

But when I say "we," I am certainly not talking about the political Islamists whom the government has been carefully nurturing and growing for 22 years.

I am not talking about our veiled sisters who show off in the luxury stores of shopping malls, by the pools of five-star hotels, and in their luxury SUVs on the streets, and who are always inclined to be victims, nor their "almond-mustached" husbands who got rich with the state loans they received for free.

Or the fresh civil servants who became police officers, night watchmen, or specialized sergeants with references from AKP provincial and district offices and became the government's natural voters with their above-average salaries...

I am talking about the country's true "middle class."

That is, the people in Turkey who are mostly secular, nationalist, represent and carry modernization, are well-read, urban; for example, educated professionals with occupations such as doctors, lawyers, teachers, and engineers, who earn their living with the sweat of their brows and their labor.

If we take a step back and look at the whole issue, we can say that the middle class worldwide is a community that is economically freer, intellectually self-sufficient, considers public interest alongside personal interest, prioritizes the rule of law, and is humanist by nature.

More or less, this is the case for Turkey as well...

And so, with the policy it has pursued for 22 years, the government is trying to destroy this middle class in Turkey and equalize people in poverty and destitution.

It already has an allergy to modernization and the concept of the nation.

But its main concern is to get ahead of demands for democracy, human rights, and the rule of law in the country.

They are aware that if the middle class in Turkey disappears or becomes dependent on a charity economy as bestowed by the government, only then can they fully strengthen and institutionalize the Neo-Hamidian regime they have in mind.

No one will demand democracy, no one will talk about human rights or the rule of law, and no one will question what they do at home or abroad; thus, the ummah-focused mentality in the service of imperialism will be able to do as it pleases within the country.

The fact that Tayyip ignored all the rules of economic science and caused inflation to explode by citing "Nas" (religious decree) serves exactly this purpose.

That is why no one should wait for Mehmet Şimşek to lower inflation.

This is where the rubber meets the road!

They know that there is a very close relationship between democracy and the middle class. If the middle class is strong in a country, democracy and human rights are also strong, and the rule of law is not questioned.

But if there is no middle class in a country, or if it is not strong enough to influence politics, it is impossible to talk about democracy, human rights, or the rule of law in that country.

That is why they see the middle class in Turkey as a serious threat to their power.

Of course, there is no need to reinvent the wheel.

Exactly 2,300 years ago, the Greek philosopher Aristotle linked democracy to the economy and saw the existence of the middle class as a necessity for democracy.

This truth has not changed since that day.
