Either he cannot read the politics, or he lacks the courage!

Tayyip Erdoğan is battering the CHP as much as he can.

What has happened since the appointment of Gürsel Tekin as a trustee to the Istanbul Provincial Presidency is like a nightmare.

Democracy, the rule of law, the right to vote and be elected, and so on, no longer exist even on paper.

The founding party of the Republic is being treated like a punching bag.

Using the judiciary as a cudgel...

This is an extremely significant turning point in the country's political history.

Let us underline this with a thick pen.

There is no turning back for the government. Tayyip Erdoğan will not back down from this, no matter what.

He came out and made a statement: "No one in Turkey is outside the scope of the law. Criticizing court decisions is one thing, not recognizing them is another. We will not say 'okay' to the power struggle heating up in the main opposition harming the country's gains."

If he could find an easy way, he would lock the doors of the CHP today.

But he is also aware that he does not have the strength for that for now.

He wants to take it slow. If it were up to him, he would wait for it to soften completely, reach the right consistency, and fall like a ripe pear, but someone else is in a hurry!

The one in Imralı is concerned with seizing the title deed of the country as soon as possible.

He is pressuring those in Ankara so that this "betrayal process" does not fail.

He is keeping the strings as tight as possible; the moment he loosens them, everything could turn upside down.

Ready, while having such strong support from both America and Israel, he is calculating how to finalize the matter without falling victim to a road accident.

So much so that he tried to set Özgür Özel straight from Imralı by saying, "I am also looking out for the interests of Kandil, DEM, and even the CHP. You must also convey my greetings to Mr. Özgür Özel; meet with him too. There is a trap; one gets out of this through democratic politics and alliance. This path is dangerous. If it continues like this, things will spill into the streets as they did in Gezi, and a decade will be lost."

Tayyip Erdoğan, of course, does not want to sideline the country's main opposition party just for his own political future. He thinks he has found an opportunity to bash the CHP and tear down all the values of the Republic that have found embodiment in the CHP.

Thus, he will leave the masses who have passed through the tutelage of the founding will defenseless, both materially and spiritually.

He must be thinking that there is nothing better than this.

After that, he can move as if walking in a village without dogs and sticks, comfortably take the lead of an Islamist-Kurdish federation, and continue as a post-modern caliph with unlimited powers until his appointed time comes.

While the picture is as clear as day, are those at the head of the CHP really aware of this?

Or are they just playing it by ear, hitting the ball as it comes in the midst of the chaos?

This is exactly where the trouble lies.

Özgür Özel gathers millions at rallies and shouts until his voice goes hoarse, yet there is no tangible result.

He constantly calls out in the squares, "Bring the ballot box, let the nation decide," but it cannot be said that Tayyip Erdoğan takes much notice. He does not even mention an early election.

He has organized more than 50 rallies since March 19.

Each rally was valuable.

For example, the words of Yozgat farmer Abdullah Ceylan, "The country cannot be governed with turnips and radishes," have gone down in Turkey's political history.

Let us give him his due. He showed the ability to gather crowds unprecedented in the history of the Republic.

But this effort could neither stop the government's operations against the CHP nor ensure the release of the mayors who were imprisoned.

Özgür Özel only fortified his own voters well.

And he continues to do so.

That is all.

But politics is the art of using the trumps in one's hand at the most appropriate time, in the most effective way, achieving results, and finalizing issues one way or another.

In a short time, no one will remember that Özgür Özel gathered millions in the squares. In the minds of my fellow citizens, only the fact that the CHP could not force the government to call an early election will remain.

For example, why does he still insist on remaining in the Abdullah Öcalan Commission in Parliament?

Everyone knows that Tayyip Erdoğan is concerned with legitimizing this betrayal process through the CHP. This is a matter of critical importance for him. He strongly needs the CHP to convince my fellow citizens.

But Özgür Özel persistently and stubbornly refrains from using this trump card.

He made a statement even worse than dire: "They are waiting for us to overturn the table. But I am not going to leave them such a comfort zone. We will invite the commission to take a few confidence-building steps in the name of democratizing Turkey."

It is like a joke, but he expects steps toward democratization from a commission established by Islamists and Kurdish nationalists to take revenge on the Republic.

You might find a virgin in the street, but you will not find democratization in this commission.

Either he cannot read politics properly, or he lacks the courage to explain this to my fellow citizens as it should be. He cannot come out and say, "As the CHP, we are not following a mentality that wants to put dynamite at the foundations of the Republic."

He is not aware that when he strongly opposes this betrayal process, he can truly corner the government. Or he has another calculation that none of us know about.

Let anyone who understands come forward, and with that, let us put a period to our article.
