He topped it off!

First, at the party congress, he toppled Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, then in the local elections, he made the CHP the leading party in Turkey.

Even if he hasn't left his mark on a quarter-century of politics, he has certainly made a significant notch.

On March 31, in the history of the CHP, Bülent Ecevit's followed by receiving the most votes, dealing a crushing defeat to the AKP.

Let us give credit where credit is due.

It is no small achievement.

But he still cannot stop acting like an adolescent who craves attention, wants to be liked and appreciated, and is constantly in a struggle to prove himself.

He became so overjoyed by the local election results that he once again lost his sense of direction.

Unfortunately, he does not—and cannot—project the image of a serious, composed, and decisive politician.

He is not fully aware of what it means to be the Chairman of the CHP and to sit in Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's seat, nor of the historical responsibility this places upon him.

He acts without seriousness.

He fails to see that the circumstances and conditions the country is currently in are manifesting in an extremely unfavorable manner.

After March 31, while we were expecting him to pursue a strong and effective policy that would force an early election and bury the AKP at the ballot box—or at the very least, not make his voters regret the votes they cast—we suddenly found him preoccupied with his own appearance and image.

First, he went under the knife to have his vocal cords corrected.

Then he went and had smart lenses implanted in his eyes.

He got rid of his glasses.

After that, he had his hair dyed.

He even had Botox to look younger.

Let's stop here, take a deep breath, and ask “let'ssay, “this is a matter of preference”

After all, he will naturally decide for himself how he appears before the people of my country.

Perhaps the CHP's image makers told him that if he throws away his glasses, if his voice doesn't crack, and if there are no grays in his hair or wrinkles on his face, he will get more votes.

We cannot know.

We will see in time whether his new image will work; whether the CHP will experience an explosion in votes just because its chairman looks younger and more handsome.

But still, no one has the right to say anything about this.

The masses who want to see the CHP as a beacon of hope for the country to escape the quagmire it has fallen into are not particularly concerned with the Chairman's appearance or demeanor.

The color of his hair, the tone of his voice, or whether or not he wears glasses is not very important.

However, his political wavering, his tendency to sway from side to side, and his avoidance of making strong emphasis on the fundamental principles of the republic and secularism are of direct concern to the Atatürkist masses who vote for the CHP.

Because these are fundamental issues.

Then there is the way he conducts politics.

Unfortunately, he has not performed very well in this regard.

Now, he has become preoccupied with trying to curry favor with Tayyip, ignoring the fact that since coming to power, Tayyip has used the full force of the state to try to crush the CHP, equated it with the PKK, even directly calling CHP members "terrorists," and disparaged the country's founding philosophy by labeling it the "CHP mentality."

He came out and said:

"I also said this when I spoke with the President on the phone during the holiday. We are Turkey's main opposition party. We are the leading party in these elections, but when we go abroad, we are Turkey's party. We have to work together for Turkey's rights and interests. For this, we will have a face-to-face meeting with Mr. Erdoğan in the coming period. We will talk about it there as well. We need to return to certain state traditions quickly..."

Tayyip, of course, did not miss this opportunity, which would be a lifeline for him, give him political breathing room, and make the CHP appear as if it were his subordinate, despite the fact that the CHP had buried the AKP at the ballot box in the elections.

"It is being discussed that CHP Chairman Özgür Özel has requested an appointment with you. What would your response to this request be?" to the question, "Our door is open to the CHP Chairman, Mr. Özel. We have many topics to address; we will sit down and talk as soon as they come for a visit" he replied.

For my part, I am truly very curious. The person who has brought Turkey to the brink of an abyss in almost every respect, who has handed over the country's resources to sects and religious communities, who has polarized society and made everyone enemies with one another; who is at odds with everyone who does not think like him, and who referred to Atatürk and İnönü as"two drunks" what could there possibly be to discuss with someone so full of hatred that they stop just short of cursing every time they mention the CHP?

Will they discuss the economy, foreign policy? Or perhaps the issue of refugees?

Will they demand that the state stop squandering its resources?

Or will they go to the Palace, stand with hands clasped in submission, and wait for instructions from His Majesty?

And they also claim to think that "we must rapidly return to our state traditions"!

Which state tradition are they talking about?

Has Tayyip left any state tradition intact?

In Turkey, there is no longer a separation of powers, rule of law, human rights, or democracy.

Meritocracy in the bureaucracy is a thing of the past...

He destroyed it all, knowingly and willingly. With the one-man regime, he turned the entire state into an AKP-aligned entity in line with his own interests.

Political Islam has permeated the very marrow of the state.

The soldiers are Tayyip's soldiers, as are the police, the judges, and the prosecutors...

Will he appear before him with his new image and say, “Mr. President, you have acted very shamefully” or will he?

If they are to meet at all, it must be between equals. If he is going to visit Tayyip at the AKP Headquarters in his capacity as the AKP Chairman, that is a different matter...

However, if he is going to go to the Palace and grovel before them, this would truly offend the people who have paid a very high price to defend the Atatürk Republic since 2002.

Those who put in the effort for the CHP to achieve this historic success did not support Özgür Özel so that he could chase after Tayyip Erdoğan and legitimize him and his one-man regime.

He may not be aware of it, but with this perspective, he would also be absolving the AKP of all the sins it has committed against this country.

Let us conclude our article by stating that such a meeting would bring much more loss than gain for the CHP.
