Let's not say 'He's crazy, whatever he does is fine!'

Donald Trump has not yet taken his seat in the Oval Office, but the wind he has been stirring up since the day he was elected has turned into almost a hurricane globally.

He is turning everything upside down!

He came out and said he wanted to seize the Panama Canal and Greenland, intimidated his northern neighbor Canada, expressed that he would apply economic pressure to make it a part of the US, and proposed that the name of the Gulf of Mexico be changed to the “Gulf of America.”

We don't know what else he will hatch before January 20!

Let us not approach the matter unseriously by saying, “He’s crazy, whatever he does is fine.”

Because these statements are not empty; in the background, there are “contingency plans” created by the American foreign service and security bureaucracy according to all kinds of military, political, strategic, economic, and even social scenarios.

Think of them as the secret files of the American deep state!

In other words, when Donald Trump appears before the cameras, he is not telling stories like Özgür Özel.

Let us underline this with a thick pen.

Everything he says has a counterpart in American foreign policy.

America does not present these important files to the public's knowledge or attention.

They are not (usually) discussed out in the open.

They are handled behind closed doors in meetings attended by the most authorized and influential figures of the system.

They are kept strictly confidential for national security reasons.

They are constantly “updated” depending on global and regional developments.

They are not used as material for domestic politics like we do!

No one should doubt that there are extremely comprehensive folders on these in the cosmic safes of the White House, the Pentagon, or the State Department!

Just like in all countries that claim to have a say in the world... These are serious matters; they do not run on empty rhetoric like ours.

What is surprising is that Donald Trump is saying these things openly.

In 2011, I had the chance to attend a meeting in Washington attended by bureaucrats from the State Department, the Pentagon, and the CIA.

They had done such a tour d'horizon of global developments that I was practically speechless. That was when I understood that the concept of “American imperialism” was not abstract, and how it took on flesh and bone.

There was almost not a single square kilometer of land on Earth that they had not considered according to American interests or for which they did not have future projections.

They knew our geography better than we did. For instance, I was horrified when they listed the villages of the Black Tatars, whom Timur settled in the Çubuk Plain after the Battle of Ankara in 1402, by name.

However, what should really be discussed here is whether Donald Trump is just shooting his mouth off or if he is consciously sending a message about the steps America will take in its foreign policy in the coming period...

Whichever it is, the situation is not to be taken lightly.

In any case, no one came out and said, “He’s an empty tin, let him keep rattling.” Harsh reactions came from Panama, Greenland, Denmark—to which Greenland is attached as an autonomous region—and Canada.

The Panama and Greenland issue is closely related to Donald Trump's “China obsession.”

He had already openly expressed his discomfort by claiming that the Panama Canal was under Chinese control, saying, “The Panama Canal is vital for our country. It is controlled by China, but we gave this place to Panama, not to China. This gift of ours has been abused.”

Yet, the reality is not so; American cargo ships account for 72 percent of the traffic in the Panama Canal. That is, the US is in first place. China's share of the total traffic is 22 percent. It is not comparable to America, but the issue here is which country will control the canal in the event of a possible conflict...

Of course, one should not ignore China's major economic investments in Panama.

Likewise, he must be thinking that the presence of rare metals in Greenland, which are used in battery production, will give America an advantage in its competition with China. Because China is the world leader in battery technology and production. America wants to take this economic power out of China's hands.

Let us not overlook the military and strategic importance of Greenland either. In addition to being an important outpost against Russia, it holds a critical position in the increasingly growing international competition for the Arctic.

Currently, the US already has a military base there.

Donald Trump wants to walk around without a stick in a village without dogs.

No one is even debating this part of the matter!

That is why he is directly confronting anything that might harm America's interests and trying to develop actions in his own way.

In short, let us put a period to our article by saying that the world seems likely to experience more global and regional conflicts in the coming period, which are pregnant with new troubles and severe crises, as if the current ones were not enough.
