The MHP pulled the pin on the grenade and dropped it in the CHP's lap

It is very clear that Özgür Özel has learned absolutely nothing from what happened to the SHP 35 years ago.

Either he has no idea what the political position he has adopted today might cost, or he is truly a partner in the project being carried out to ensure the political Islamist government remains at the helm of the country for the next sixty years!

We have understood once again that his diving headfirst into the "betrayal" commission in Parliament, claiming "this was already our idea," was not about explaining what is happening behind closed doors to the people of this country or exposing the disaster toward which the government is dragging the nation.

We could more or less predict that Özgür Özel's constant pandering to Kurdish nationalists at every opportunity since taking the helm would lead to this. But we didn't have the heart to write it out in the open.

The final report of this betrayal commission will be out in a short while, but after yesterday's meeting, the MHP pulled the pin on the grenade and dropped it right into the CHP's lap.

Feti Yıldız appeared before the cameras with CHP Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir.

When journalists asked about Abdullah Öcalan, "Is there a right to hope?"

He answered without hesitation, "We have reached an agreement, we have reached an agreement." In other words, he was speaking not just on behalf of the MHP, but on behalf of the commission, and he had included the CHP in this.

Perhaps not finding his two-word statement sufficient, he continued by emphasizing, "We have reached a very important stage. We will finish the matter next week. There is full consensus."

The state of Murat Emir, who was standing right next to him like a prop, was pathetic.

He did not look like one of the influential, authorized deputies of the main opposition party vying for power in the country. It was as if he had been forcibly inserted into that photo frame.

When it was his turn to speak, with a confused facial expression, he made a move to "see if we can save the situation a little," but it didn't work, he couldn't manage it; he mumbled and stammered, "I insistently say that even if there is no full consensus, we will reach that consensus. I am saying that we have not fully agreed on any issue, that we have discussed every issue, and that the parties are moving closer to each other, but there is no consensus."

Let's not drag this out; the issue of the "right to hope," which Feti Yıldız announced with the word "we have reached an agreement" and about which Murat Emir could say nothing more than mumble like a shy child, is a literal breaking point in today's politics.

Let's ask more clearly:

Is the CHP giving political approval to a process that could pave the way for the de facto release of Abdullah Öcalan?

The answer must be clear; otherwise, even the ambiguity in the sentences tells us a lot.

At the end of the day, the CHP has conceded a beautiful goal to the MHP. From this hour on, that ball will not come out of that net; no one should wait in vain.

When viewed from this perspective, the issue seems simple, but it is actually quite complicated.

It is not possible for them to just say, "Here is your right to hope, get out of İmralı, come and do politics in Ankara."

As far as we can see, they will somehow link the issue to ECHR rulings so that they have a good excuse to push it on the people of this country.

As if the government cares much about the Council of Europe or the ECHR.

Supposedly, they respect international treaties.

Özgür Özel will thus be able to save face. He will take this as an opportunity and hide behind it, trying to excuse himself by saying, "By God, by my faith, this is not an issue of our making; according to ECHR rulings, Abdullah Öcalan must be granted the right to hope," and so on.

If they also release Selahaddin and Osman, they will have found their cover.

If you believe it...

You don't need to be a prophet to predict these things. Anyone with a modicum of political literacy can see it.

So, will the people of this country be convinced?

That is the crux of the matter!

If Özgür Özel thinks he can save the situation by playing games with talk of ECHR rulings and the like, he is making the mistake of his life.

The legislation currently in force does not allow for granting Abdullah Öcalan the right to hope. They are obliged to make changes to certain laws.

Actually, the AKP, MHP, and DEM members have a majority in Parliament, but if the CHP is not with them, the legitimacy of the issue will be in trouble.

That is why they consider this side of the matter to be of critical importance.

Of course, if the tide turns tomorrow and the government takes the "nationalism" card back into its hands, it will have magnificent material to turn the CHP into a punching bag.

If the CHP, which was declared a terrorist organization yesterday even though it had nothing to do with Kurdish nationalists, gives the green light to granting Öcalan the right to hope, then it's all over. Let us leave it to our readers' imagination how much of a beating it will take from the government then.

By that time, since Devlet Bahçeli and the MHP will have already completed their mission and been buried in the dark pages of history, the bill for this issue will be laid solely at the door of the CHP, let no one have any doubt; especially if Tayyip Erdoğan thinks, "Let me just consolidate this nationalist crowd nicely!" Then, watch the show...

Let us not pass without saying: let no one come out and claim that this is a trap set for the CHP.

This is not a trap, and it is certainly not a conspiracy. This is a conscious political position adopted by the identity-based, neoliberal, globalist mentality that currently occupies the CHP.

In short, it is easy to criticize the economic destruction, the justice crisis, and the collapse of meritocracy that concern broad segments of society. But the Abdullah Öcalan issue is still one of the most sensitive nerve endings of this country, let's say its still-bleeding wound.

Özgür Özel cannot be unaware of this.

Despite this, if he continues to engage in politics by hiding behind a concept that seems technical like the "right to hope" but is extremely dangerous, this will benefit no one; the knife-edge balances in the country will be overturned, an emotional rupture will be triggered among people, and social fault lines will be broken in a way that is irreversible.

Unfortunately, the CHP cannot convince anyone here, and it cannot... Its own core base is uneasy, undecided voters are fleeing, and Özgür Özel is presenting the power that was close enough to hold in his palm to Tayyip Erdoğan on a silver platter.

The SHP was like this in 1991, too. It was sure of itself. Erdal İnönü was saying, "We are doing the right thing." "History will prove us right," and so on... Then history came and pushed the SHP out of politics, tied a tin can to its tail.

What the CHP is doing today is not essentially different. The same self-confidence, the same detachment from reality, the same tendency to underestimate the voter.

It just won't have the luxury of saying, "A trap was set for us." Because the one who pulled the rope, the one who tied the knot, and the one who kicked the chair is the CHP itself.

What finished the SHP was not just bringing Kurdish politicians into Parliament; it was failing to take the rest of the people of this country into account while doing so. The CHP is making the exact same mistake today. It is in the complacency of "our voters will understand anyway"!

But we know that is not how things work.

As we conclude the article, let us say that the CHP's biggest mistake is thinking it will still win the election after alienating its traditional base, and put a period to our writing.
