'My brother has come from Ankara'

The CHP's party congress lawsuit has been postponed; there is a festive atmosphere at home, as if my brother has come from Ankara!*

The opposition in my country is practically ready to dance with joy.

Even the stock market has surged.

They couldn't be happier if they had actually come to power!

The CHP's lawyer, Çağlar Çağlayan, mumbled something about how “the lawsuit turned out to be unjust,” as if rights, law, and justice were held in high regard in this country...

The plaintiff Lütfü Savaş's lawyer, Yusuf Üregen, was demanding that Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu be appointed to the party administration as a precautionary measure until a final decision was reached on the merits of the case.

The court did not make such a decision; the hopes of those on that side were dashed, and they were left empty-handed.

Yet, just a day before, they were calculating whose tails they would tie tin cans to after taking over the CHP.

The storm has calmed down a little. Now, we will all wait together for October 24, the next hearing.

But before that, we will be talking morning and night about the party congress three days from now.

How nice...

Let's not be the ones to rain on the CHP supporters' parade, but there is neither a won field battle nor a major political victory here.

On the contrary, things are going exactly as the government wants.

Those who console themselves by saying that the CHP poured millions into the streets, displayed a strong opposition stance, and therefore the government had to hit the brakes, and that the court did not issue a ruling of absolute nullity, either do not know political Islamists at all or live in another country.

Mehmet Şimşek may have been afraid that the economy would fall into further disarray, but that's about it. It is likely he had the courage to go to the Palace and say, “If another 8 billion dollars flies out of the Treasury, I'm out.”

But we can say that they are quite pleased with how Özgür Özel is effectively letting off steam for the opposition in my country.

Let's write it clearly: he is conducting politics within the boundaries drawn by Tayyip Erdoğan. He has neither the will nor the capacity to go beyond them... Whether he has the intention is also doubtful.

When you listen to his statements carefully, you see that he is constantly making references within the garden wall.

But let's give him his due, he is wearing himself out; he is here, he is there, he is on the verge of tearing his lungs and rupturing his vocal cords from shouting and yelling. Rally after rally, he drew millions to the squares... Songs, folk tunes, slogans... Even Hasan Cemal, a registered Second Republican whose cheeks Tayyip Erdoğan once pinched while calling him “Brother Hasan,” has packed his bags and come to the Tandoğan rally.

The result?

The government is neither stopping the operations against CHP-run municipalities, nor releasing the mayors it has imprisoned, nor does it intend to put the ballot box in front of the nation. On the contrary, it is pressing the gas pedal harder and harder.

There is a situation for Özgür Özel that is as if our angry brother Saffet Soykal said, “Who am I talking to! To a wall...”

Moreover, mayors from opposition parties are lining up to jump ship to the AKP. Those who see the difficulty are looking for an opportunity to run away.

In short, the government's concern is to keep the CHP debated in the public eye as much as possible. Anything else is just empty talk!

And it is doing this well.

It doesn't care about law, justice, political ethics, or anything of the sort.

From now on, they will keep the CHP on the agenda 24/7.

Both the palace-fed media and the channels that deem themselves “opposition” will continue to go on about whether there will be a surprise at the congress on September 21, what the court will decide on October 24, whether Kılıçdaroğlu will be offended because there was no ruling of absolute nullity, whether he will go and form an Alevi party, and so on.

If things seem to calm down a bit, an operation against two major metropolitan municipalities, and there you go, the CHP is the top item on the agenda again.

They will keep beating up the CHP with nonsensical excuses to distract from the real issues that hurt the people of my country: the cost of living, inflation, the insecurity of the streets, femicides, corruption, social decay, the refugee issue... the list is very, very long.

The victory won in positional battles is, let's say, a spoonful of honey smeared on the lips of the opposition in my country, and they will console themselves with this.

The whole point is for Tayyip Erdoğan to sit in his seat until his appointed time comes. Let no one doubt that they will do whatever they can for that.

This includes criminalizing the main opposition party.

They will lower the CHP's guard completely until they change the Constitution in partnership with the DEM party. They will bring it to the consistency they want, they will soften it.

Of course, it also works in their favor that the politics they have carefully corrupted has permeated the CHP.

It is not easy for them to leave the comfortable zone of opposition they have been accustomed to for years, but it is also clear that things cannot go on like this. The CHP needs to use this momentum it has gained as a driving force for results-oriented politics. Otherwise, let us end our article by saying that the opposition in my country will not see the face of power for a lifetime.
