The commission's rationale

In the words of my late father, unless some divine intervention occurs, the 'opening' commission is meeting today.

Well, let's hope it brings good fortune!

Özgür Özel will get his wish, and we shall see how it all plays out.

We don't know what kind of calculations he made in his head to throw the CHP into such a fire (!), but it is clear that this game, played to keep Tayyip Erdoğan in the Presidential seat until his final days, will not have a happy ending.

In military circles, they say, "strategic errors cannot be corrected by tactical successes."

Let us continue with military terminology; by volunteering to take part in this theater played to extend Tayyip Erdoğan's political life, Özgür Özel has made a "strategic error" from which a return is hardly possible.

Even if he gains ground with the tactical maneuvers he carries out with empty talk from now on, it will be too late.

Unfortunately, we will all pay the price for this mistake.

It is possible that we will even witness the collapse of the Republic of Turkey, founded in 1923; the sovereignty given to the people through the Republican revolutions will this time pass into the hands of a postmodern sultan, and the country will turn into an Islamist-Kurdish nationalist federation.

Of course, we are not being prophets of doom.

If things continue this way, anyone with a basic knowledge of Turkey and political literacy can predict where and how this will end.

Özgür Özel is now trying to convince his base on news channels, looking agitated. But his efforts are in vain. We all know very well that when election time comes, he will not be able to get votes from the Kurdish nationalists he is trying to appease, nor from the Islamists he praises at every opportunity.

The bill for alienating his traditional base by following the terrorist organization PKK, its blood-stained leader Abdullah Öcalan, and its political wing, the DEM Party, will come due then.

We do not know if they will come to their senses when the CHP's votes hit rock bottom. We will see when the time comes.

Let us now make this note in the ledger of the white-bearded father of history.

To underline it again, Özgür Özel made this decision despite the CHP base; he dove headfirst into this commission of betrayal.

If he had wanted to, he could have put the ballot box in front of the CHP members. He could have made a decision based on the result. For instance, he could have said, "I have taken the views of my members into account. Democracy works in our party. I could not have made such an important decision without asking the base."

Then, no one would have had the right to criticize or blame the CHP. Moreover, his hand against the government would have been strengthened.

He did not do it; he did not want to.

Because he wants to be part of this process of betrayal just as much as the government and the DEM Party do.

The other day, he came out and said, "Trust me." When there is almost a 180-degree difference between what he says and the political position he adopts, can he inspire trust in the people of this country?

First, you say you are in favor of the defense of rights, and then you go on Barzani's television channel and speak with the tongue of Kurdish nationalists!

Which one should we believe?

When it comes to his turn to speak, he puts a sack full of excuses in front of the nation.

But he cannot fill it.

For example, he cannot explain with reasonable and logical sentences why Abdullah Öcalan is so insistent on the CHP joining the commission.

He constantly turns the issue into a jumble of words.

On Sözcü TV, he made such a calculation of "qualified majority" that it was laughable. He produced his own formulas as if he didn't know that the DEM Party had joined the People's Alliance. He got angry at Özlem Gürses, who added the DEM votes to the AKP and MHP, and snapped at her, asking, "Do you see the DEM as an enemy?"

If Özlem Gürses had explained with examples how the Kurdish nationalist politics represented by the DEM has maintained a hostile stance against the Republic of Turkey to this day, and then asked, "Do you see a political party that does not hide that it is the political wing of a blood-stained terrorist organization and takes its instructions from the criminal in Imralı as a friend?" I wonder what Özgür Özel would have answered.

In short, his constant need to protect and shield the DEM Party does not escape the eyes of the CHP base.

These are always written as minuses in his account.

Not only him, but İmamoğlu, who holds his leash, is also very keen on this business.

The statements he made from Silivri cause question marks to increase in the minds of the people who support him.

He feels the need to get involved in the Kurdish issue so as not to remain in the background, but unfortunately, he is not aware that he is failing.

Let us not be surprised if we see the İmamoğlu balloon burst in the near future.
