The unbearable lightness of politics over the blood of martyrs!

Legendary police reporter Ünal İnanç used to say, 'If you want to find the perpetrator, look at who benefits from terrorist acts!'

Since issues were less complicated 30 years ago than they are today, if any organization engaged in an armed act, we could have reasoned soundly about the purpose of that act, who was behind it, and whether it would produce political consequences based on this approach of Ünal İnanç.

Today, conditions have changed significantly in both foreign and domestic policy, but this approach of Ünal İnanç still retains its validity.

In the last quarter-century, although it is in no way acceptable from a legal, political, humanitarian, or moral perspective, terrorism has become an important determinant of foreign policy, and terrorist organizations have become an important tool, apparatus, and lever of diplomacy.

Western countries, in particular, have started using “proxies” rather than getting their hands dirty in crisis regions or countries where they have interests.

In addition to the cost being lower than conventional warfare, the fact that they do not take any legal or political responsibility while holding these proxies has been a convenient arrangement for Western countries.

They have tried to legitimize these as “sub-state structures” and their activities as “proxy wars” with fancy concepts to convince public opinion both at home and abroad.

However, this is not only valid for foreign policy.

Unfortunately, it also has a counterpart in domestic politics.

Terrorist organizations and terrorist activities are also used as a “fortification tool” in domestic politics.

This manifests itself more in authoritarian and one-man regimes. The world has perhaps anchored itself to mediocrity or even below mediocrity as uneducated or less-educated masses, who develop political behavior based on emotions rather than fluidity and vote accordingly, have become decisive in politics.

The rise of populism, like a global pandemic, has allowed political figures using religious, sectarian, racist, and ethnic rhetoric to easily seize power over the past 20 years. Thus, while democracies have gradually eroded, leaders who engage in demagoguery over homeland, nation, religion, faith, and scripture have realized that they can maintain their power by polarizing society.

However, for this formula to yield the desired result, the appropriate material also had to be found. Dry demagoguery did not always work.

Although every authoritarian leader follows more or less the same methods to polarize society and fortify the masses with demagogic rhetoric, the one-man regime in Turkey separates itself dramatically from the others!

At this point, the politics the government conducts over the blood of its own soldiers comes to the fore.

Just as it did after the attacks where the PKK martyred 12 of our soldiers in Hakurk and Metina...

On the day Turkey was shaken by the news coming from northern Iraq, we said, “Prove us wrong for once,” act with responsibility as the leader of a country like Turkey. Do not divide society, do not polarize, be a unifier...

But in vain...

He came out again and played politics over the blood of the martyrs, declaring those who did not align behind him as “traitors.” He did not take any responsibility, as if he were not the only one with a say in the country and as if every word that came out of his mouth were not accepted as a decree. He did not stop at not taking responsibility; he also tried to dump all the blame on the main opposition.

He and especially his junior partner targeted the CHP leader with sentences that even the person on the street would hesitate to utter.

Provocations were carried out at martyrs' funerals with mobilized crowds, and wreaths sent by the opposition were torn apart accompanied by chants of 'Allahu Akbar'.

The PKK's bloody act gave Erdoğan a very “good opportunity” to demonize the opposition, ensure the public aligns behind him, and fortify his base, which has begun to dissolve due to the economic crisis.

Of course, he did not miss this opportunity.

He started the election campaign with the political show he put on over the blood of the martyrs before the funerals had even taken place.

Because he had no other material left to use for the local elections.

Everyone knows that in all provinces and districts of Turkey, CHP candidates will not be competing against the candidates of the AKP, MHP, İYİ Party, DEM, or TİP.

From the village to the town, from the district to the metropolitan city, the real rival of all CHP candidates will be Erdoğan.

He himself is already in favor of it being this way. He does not want any other name to come to the fore politically.

Since it is practically impossible for him to conduct separate election campaigns for 81 provinces and 922 districts, Erdoğan knowingly and willingly moves the issue to a “macro” level.

That is, it is possible for him to campaign for Istanbul, and for Ankara, Antalya, Adana, and Bursa as well. But he also knows that he cannot utter more than three sentences for, say, the İskilip district of Çorum, the Bucak district of Burdur, or the Gömeç district of Balıkesir!

That is why he was either going to proceed through the economy and ask for votes for AKP candidates, or he was going to bring the security issue to the fore.

He chose the latter.

Because the economy is at the point of collapse. Low-income earners, especially retirees, are living almost at the hunger threshold. Inflation has gone through the roof, and while the happy religious minority fed by the government knows no bounds in vulgarity, people on the street are writhing in the grip of poverty.

Everyone is like a powder keg.

Because of this picture, Erdoğan did not want to proceed through the economy. What economic success would he explain and ask for votes from the nation!?

He decided to go through the security issue. The PKK's bloody act took place with very meaningful timing, and Erdoğan took the stage with the microphone in his hand.

The rest is well known...

He has always won with this strategy until today. Now, it seems he will continue with his classic politics, the success of which has been proven many times before; engage in demagoguery over the blood of martyrs, declare the main opposition terrorists, silence dissenting voices; align the nation behind you by saying religion, faith, God, and scripture...

It is difficult to make a prediction about what will happen in the upcoming election. This will depend more on the performance that the CHP will or will not show.

On the other hand, not many people were exactly interested in why the PKK actually carried out this act.

If we go by the evaluations of those who know their subject well, not the pseudo-experts who have an opinion on everything with a stick in their hand, the US could be behind this, or Russia! Perhaps Iran... Biden may have also given Erdoğan a nudge. Let's add Putin to the list as well.

None of these are conspiracy theories.
