Let's say it upfront: they will!
Tayyip came out during the November 10th ceremonies and said,
“If the Gazi's life and health had allowed him to lead the country for at least another 10 years, we would undoubtedly have seen a completely different Turkey after World War II. Unfortunately, with the passing of the Gazi, we missed this opportunity. After transitioning to multi-party political life, the coups, weak coalitions, and incompetent cadres that were inflicted upon us caused our country to fall behind in the global development race.”
Let's not say, "Where did this statement come from, there's no wedding or holiday, why did my uncle kiss me?"
What he said, while trying to avoid mentioning Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's name, is perfectly consistent with the strategy he has skillfully planned and implemented in the process leading up to 2028.
In fact, it fits like a glove, so to speak.
Let us explain as best we can.
He considers it of critical importance to be a candidate and get elected once more for the Neo-Hamidian regime to reach its completion.
He has no tolerance for the thought of leaving power.
He is concerned with making a soft transition and leaving a path as thornless as possible for whoever comes after him.
For this reason, he has pressed all the buttons at once.
On one hand, he dangled the Öcalan carrot to the DEM supporters, and on the other, he took action to trick the confused voter.
No matter what anyone says, he reads politics well and makes his moves accordingly.
It is no secret that voters have reacted to Özgür Özel's absurd statements made after the local elections—which even disregarded the founding values of the Republic—and his desire to curry favor with the palace by calling it normalization, softening, or "warming up," and that they have distanced themselves from the CHP.
This is one of the reasons why the votes in the "undecided" category in polls have been on the rise in recent months.
Looking from another angle, the voters who are now lamenting, "I wish my hand had broken..." and who do not know who to vote for in the upcoming election will be the deciding factor. Tayyip is aware of this.
It is not difficult for him to re-fortify those who withdrew their support from the government due to the economic crisis. He knows that when he says religion, faith, God, book, homeland, nation, the waters stop flowing. Especially when it comes to things like the "survival issue," he has no doubt that they will align behind his every sentence.
However, the confused people of my country, who were fed up with the government in the last election and voted for the CHP, and who might possibly stamp the seal for the CHP in the next election, need to be "convinced" now.
This is what lies behind the effort to establish a similarity between himself and Atatürk on November 10th.
In essence, he wants to say this: The country suffered great hardships because Atatürk did not live for another 10 years; if I do not sit in this seat for another 10 years, your situation will be dire...
Will the voter say, since we ended up in this state because Atatürk passed away early, let's go and vote for Tayyip now!
It is not out of the question.
Özgür Özel is already carrying water to the government's mill.
Even if he saves the day with a wishy-washy statement like, "The true face of those who claim to be Atatürkists and their insincere statements are being weighed on the nation's scale of justice," it is clear that he cannot see, or perhaps does not want to see, the whole picture.
If we read carefully what Tayyip expressed in the continuation of his statement, we can understand that he has not taken a single step back from his hostility toward the CHP.
So, the issue is beyond just being insincere.
We do not know if the current management of the CHP is aware of this, or to what extent they are aware.
But while Tayyip is setting up his game with the precision of a jeweler's scale, it is necessary to create a strong strategy beyond daily statements and the concern of keeping up with the rhetoric.
Otherwise, the rest will be empty talk.
Let us provide some inside information from the deep corridors of Ankara; it is being discussed that a constitutional amendment and a subsequent snap election will come to the agenda before the summer months arrive. Let us put a period here by saying that work schedules in the palace are being adjusted accordingly.
