I was saying that the agenda never seems to get around to the fire in the kitchen or the stoves where not even a bowl of soup can be boiled, when an investigation was launched against Mansur Yavaş for distributing soup.

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş said regarding the practice that has been ongoing for years: “Anyone who is humane would act like me.” 

When the subject is soup, the reference to “soup money” will come to all of our minds.

When we say “soup money,” this soup money is different…

Esenler Municipality, where AKP member M. Tevfik Göksu serves as mayor, has been running a project called “Soup Fountain” since 2011.

There is no information in official records regarding which company was awarded the tender for the service between 2011 and 2015.

However, we can reveal the portion from 2016 to the present with official documents.

In 2017, the tender for the soup to be distributed was won by a company belonging to Hüseyin Aydın, an AKP district executive in Esenler, for a price of 360,000 TL.

Subsequently, the same company continued to win the tenders every year. 

The approximate costs of this tender to the municipality were as follows:

-2018 soup cost 427,500 TL, 

-661,500 TL for 2019,

-855,000 TL for 2020,

-No tender was held in 2021 due to the pandemic.

-1,675,000 TL in 2022

-4,020,000 TL in 2023

-7,596,000 TL in 2024

In 2022, the cost of one cup of soup was 3.35 TL

In 2023, the cost of one cup of soup was 6.70 TL

In 2024, it rises to 12.66 TL.

According to the Esenler Municipality, the cost of a cup of soup has increased by 278% in 2 years.

But according to the data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), there is no such price increase.

In 2022, food inflation was 77.87%

According to TÜİK, food inflation in 2023 was 72.1%

But at the Esenler Municipality, the cost of a cup of soup has increased by 90%. 

There are three options: either TÜİK is wrong, or Mr. Mehmet Tevfik is…

Or this is truly “Soup Money.”
