A US base has been established in Greenland

The headline is accurate. But it creates a false impression. After Trump announced his interest in Greenland, seeing a headline like this makes one wonder if a base has just been established.

Don't panic. It has been 85 years since the base was established. Following Germany's occupation of Denmark and its subsequent claim over Greenland, the US deployed to Thule in 1941 for strategic reasons to "protect" the region. The former name of this facility, now known as Pituffik Space Base, is significant in many respects.

Thule is a historic place. It is a sacred site in the eyes of those who believe in Wotan—also known as Odin in Norse mythology, though some argue there are differences between the two. It was a particularly important location for those who claimed to believe in Wotan and who, in the first quarter of the 20th century, founded one of the most significant theosophical societies (a general term for mystical tendencies attempting to reconcile science with religion). Would they have named their society Thule if it weren't important? Rudolf von Sebottendorf, the founder of the Thule Society, was an Ottoman citizen and a mystic who later embraced Bektashism. He was also an antisemitic German nationalist who believed in the superiority of the Aryan race. He was a "kingmaker" in modern terms, who chose Hitler as leader and decided he should become Führer after the famous Beer Hall Putsch.

Sebottendorf's antisemitism (some of those who introduced him to Bektashism were of Jewish origin), his belief in the superiority of the Aryan race, his selection of Hitler, his role in defining the principles of the Nazi Party, his presence in Turkey, his relationships with Sufi schools in Turkey, and his death in Turkey... All these are questionable subjects. They deserve a comprehensive and detailed study. However, this is important: Sebottendorf's students and party members took on significant roles on the winning side immediately after losing World War II. Indeed, long before the war, world-renowned figures had become members of this society. According to claims, King George V of the United Kingdom, the infamous Aleister Crowley—who named his son Atatürk—Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands, and US President Dwight D. Eisenhower were members of the society. Who trained Sebottendorf, how they led him down this path, and who empowered him are questions waiting to be answered by those curious about the subject.

Let us return to our topic. In the eyes of the Thule Society, these Northern European lands, which were so important, would save them from the influence of Christianity, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean, and return them to their "noble" essence. Perhaps this "noble" essence is also important in the eyes of Nebraskans of German descent. However, beyond these mystical/ideological reasons, it was unthinkable for this region, which holds strategic importance in the eyes of the Anglo-American world against Russia and Germany, to be left unattended. For the US, which wanted to establish a superior position against both Germany and Russia in 1941, utilizing Thule was certainly reasonable. But what about now? Germany is gone. But is this all just about concerns regarding Russia?

Control of the North Sea, the disruption of the China-Russia friendship, the sharing of resources that will be exposed by melting glaciers, dominance over new trade routes that will open up, and control over Europe... All these "sublime" goals are important for the US. The issue goes beyond the US... Whoever wants to lead or remain at the head of imperialist relations will want to dominate this critical region. Trump is right then! This place should not be left to anyone. Since so many people want to take it, there is a need for a power "from among us" to control it.

Are those who claim to protect Europe by constantly saying "Russia will occupy Europe" going to occupy Europe themselves? Those who once claimed to protect and exalt the Aryan race tied the hands of the Germans with the catastrophe they caused. The Germans were ashamed of their Germanness. Now that shame is being forgotten. What was once whispered is now being voiced loudly. As the drums of war grow louder, old spirits are reviving. The descendants of the disciples of the Thule Society are raising their heads. The path is being cleared for racism, xenophobia, occupations, and massacres.

Meanwhile, Trump's statements on Greenland are being mocked with social media memes. When Trump first brought up the Greenland issue in 2024, the majority did not take it seriously. Now, some are slowly waking up. Those who underestimated Trump's management strategy and rhetoric are regretting the time lost in negligence. But the majority still continues to underestimate Trump. Has the time not come to abandon the disease of belittling and look at reality? For now, the bells are tolling for Greenland.
