Dear Mayor,
You were successful in a challenging election. The country is in a state of crisis. The economy has collapsed. Incompetence is rampant. There is no legal security. Education is in shambles.
The institutions of the Republic are needed. Today, the central budget will not provide you with sufficient support. But there are thousands of people who would spend a fortune for these needs.
Open schools in your municipalities. The Çankaya Municipality and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality have very successful daycare centers. This means it can be done. Today, our children need schools. People are turning to private schools due to the inadequacy, lack of security, and outdated nature of state schools. Encouraging private schools in this way is almost a state policy. Private schools both exploit this situation to drain the savings of parents and employ teachers—whose labor they profit from—for pennies. There is nothing to say against private schools that do their job properly. However, most private schools do not inspire any confidence.
Our municipalities should replace private schools. There are various ways to finance these schools: crowdfunding, municipal budgets, providing education for a fee but at a low cost, and support from industrialists and investors. Through modern and qualified educational practices, we can save our children and, in the long run, our nation.
Municipalities can support and mediate the organization of neighborhood residents in this endeavor. In this way, such schools can be established without spending directly from the municipal budget, while also supporting teachers in living a humane life. Today, the means for this exist.
Local producers can also be supported through these schools. Our children can be fed with local and healthy food purchased from local producers in school cafeterias and dining halls.
Through intensive sports activities and the support of neighborhood residents, our children can be protected against drugs and gangs.
Our children can be saved from the rotten darkness of our country through modern education.
Our orphaned children can reside in dormitories attached to these schools. Thanks to the dining halls of these schools, not a single child will have to go to bed hungry.
These schools do not need to be in high-rent areas. They can also be established in relatively less valuable areas of the city. As a result of operating our schools efficiently, both parents can participate in the workforce more effectively, and the livelihood of city residents can be contributed to by purchasing the supplies necessary for school operations from local producers.
In addition to all this, we can protect our children from the influence of outdated religious sects. By establishing such schools, we will both protect our children from drugs and sects, and prevent the middle and lower-middle classes from being robbed by a handful of contractors who own most of the existing private schools. Moreover, our teachers will be able to live humanely.
A city that does not look after its children darkens its future.
Do not allow our future to be darkened.
Our Republic needs modern schools, modern education, and modern individuals.
Let us not abandon our children to darkness until we get the Republic of Turkey back on track.
It is the duty of us all to raise citizens with free minds, free wisdom, and free consciences!
