The word "decadent" is used mostly in literature. It is written as "décadent" in French and is, of course, pronounced "dekadan." It means to fall, to collapse, to sink.
The title, however, is different: Decadamus. It is Latin... It means "let us fall."
Yes, let us fall. Since we have decayed and collapsed this much, let us fall even further.
Since there is no moral, ethical, political, or logical boundary, let us recognize no limits.
We will find a scapegoat anyway.
Let us think about the news we happened to encounter in a single day.
We learned about it through the reports of female students returning to their dorms after the holiday. In the girls' dormitory rooms, alcoholic beverage cans and cigarette butts had been discarded; condoms and erotic messages had been left behind with care. We want to say it is an "isolated incident."
Ten minutes later, a tweet or a WhatsApp share: Pilots of an airline company had formed a WhatsApp group. The name of the group was "Talented Stewardesses." The gentlemen were sharing their evaluations regarding the stewardesses they had slept with or claimed to have slept with. We are angry at them, aren't we? Let us be angry, sir, but let us know that they are not alone.
What happens in religious sect dormitories and schools has been known to all of us for years.
Let us remember the beauty salon owners and the women's rights lawyer who posed with them. Is there a need for this much?
Let us remember those who used the e-signatures of officials in the judiciary to gain unfair profit, the "Rose Judges," the FETÖ stock markets, the bribe-taking lawyers... Let us remember these. Let us remember, but the memory is overflowing.
Let us remember the newborn gang. Hospital owners, operators, and healthcare workers, primarily physicians... They are among the rare groups that receive a considerable salary among those who earn their living by selling their labor. Despite this, they fall for the devil's temptation.
The first response that came to mind against allegations of bribery and corruption used to be principles and ideologies like social democracy and populism. We see the state of those who claim to adopt these ideologies. The allegations and confessions of Aziz İhsan Aktaş, if they are not all slander, are terrifying. We have long known what has been happening among the bureaucrats and municipal officials of right-wing parties. One would not expect this much from this side. Or should we have expected it?
We are trying to understand why this is happening. It seems education, money, and religious posturing do not pay off. They are not enough to stop our collapse. Those who attempt these immoral acts are not low-earning, ignorant, uneducated, or boorish people. They do it because they can. They do it because they have those who applaud them. They do it because there are those who remain silent, the "mute devils." They do it because there is no punishment. They do it because they are immoral. They do it because... I do not know.
We are in a collapse... We are collapsing. There is no solution in sight, but there are many who can be declared guilty. It is the same in politics. We choose to blame those who lost because they lost, and those who could not win because they could not win. If we reduce the number of those responsible to one in this process, we feel relieved. Or, to save one person, we blame their "entourage." When it is not clear who we are blaming, blaming is easy and comforting.
When we stop blaming individuals, this time we blame the system. Capitalism is guilty. According to some, religion is guilty. According to some, it is the Laz contractor lobby, according to others the Dersim gang, according to some the Kurdish mafia, according to others the Circassian solidarity, according to some crypto-Armenians, crypto-Jews, or someone else... Of course, doing this openly is harder. After all, we are sensitive about racism and discrimination. Recently, the enemies of the Alevis of the past have emerged against our writers who criticize Alevis disproportionately. Our writers are discriminatory, it seems. We have found new culprits. We can forget Madımak, Maraş, and Çorum.
We do not learn; we are in a collapse. Why bother changing our minds? We will find new enemies, new scapegoats. Sin increases as it is shared, while responsibility decreases. Reducing our responsibility... Oh, what a wonderful job!
Ladies and gentlemen, are you aware? We are now beyond individuals and the system. There are no longer any boundaries. It is not clear how we will get out of this. Let us fall. All together... There is no collapsing alone!
