'I Defend the Republic' signature!

Read the text I am a signatory to, word by word:

“We, the undersigned, call upon Turkey’s republican heritage to stand behind this claim: We will not allow our country to be pushed off a cliff.

We want peace and brotherhood.

We do not want the Republic of Turkey to have the Treaty of Lausanne questioned; our current borders debated; neo-Ottoman dreams, illegitimate designations such as the Turkish Empire, ummah-ism, or political structures and institutions based on ethnic and sectarian identities.

We want peace and brotherhood, as well as an independent and secular country, an egalitarian order, and a planned economy.

We will not allow our country to be pushed off a cliff.”

Some who claim to have read this text were foaming at the mouth.

I say “claim to have read” because these were complaints more about what was not written than what was written in the text.

This signature text is a call: A call for Turkey’s republican heritage to protect the republic and to establish an egalitarian, planned order.

A person of average intelligence who reads the text—but truly reads it—understands quite clearly what is being defended:

1) Protecting Turkey’s legitimacy in international law

2) Opposing the shrinking of Turkey’s current borders

3) Opposing the destruction of the republic to establish an Ottoman state under the guise of “expansion” promises

4) Opposing efforts to divide the people of Turkey through archaic identities that people cannot choose or are born into.

It is a text that anyone who defends modern law, the modern state, peace, brotherhood, and freedom can sign.

Of course, one can oppose this text. But if someone reads this text and labels it as “anti-Kurdish” or against the end of terrorism, one must doubt either their sanity, their intentions, or whether they have actually read this text at all.

Let us write it again, word by word: “We will defend the modern state, the republic, the unity of citizens, and equality.”

Greetings to our friends from the Communist Party of Turkey who took the lead in opening this text for signatures and announcing it!
