Mind your mind!

We have lived to see these days. Philosophers saw long ago that reason was being lost and our ability to reason was atrophying. However, they also offered a remedy for this: Critical Thinking. This field, which we can call an application of logic, has gradually expanded and developed. 

Critical thinking skills and knowledge are essential in almost every decision-making and discussion process, from advertising to propaganda, from emotional relationships to career planning. Moreover, its importance in education has also increased today. Critical thinking is an extremely useful endeavor for the "new generation" questions that require reasoning. In fact, experimental design, drawing inferences from findings... Critical thinking is necessary in all these areas. 

We could have saved the thousands of our people who followed a snotty terrorist, the many minds we lost to terrorist organizations, the consumers who act against their own health due to advertising bombardment, and the generations we lost to racism and chauvinism... Let us save those we might sacrifice in the future, starting now!

It is easy to complain about members of the judiciary and justice workers who act with rote templates. Complaining about education is also taking the easy way out. Let us focus on solutions. 

One of these solutions is to improve and sharpen our reasoning skills. 

To this end, we have previously provided critical thinking training at various institutions. In the absence of Turkish resources for this training, we translated Alec Fisher's work titled The Logic of Real Arguments into Turkish. Our book recently went into its second printing.

Critical thinking essentially focuses on argument analysis. When providing training in this field, arguments that are usually easy and therefore have little impact in real life are addressed. However, in this text that we have brought into Turkish, quite difficult arguments are addressed without surrendering to symbolic logic. As the title of the book suggests, "Real Arguments" are addressed.

This book strengthens our critical thinking ability through the foundational texts of thinkers who have shaped humanity's intellectual life, from Galileo to Marx, from Thomas Malthus to Charles Darwin, and from Dawkins to Mill. Thanks to the exercises section carefully selected from important texts in the history of thought, the reader will also have the chance to test and improve themselves. 

Moreover, this book, which is a very valuable resource for students and their teachers in a wide range of disciplines including philosophy, law, and social sciences, also contains an appendix summarizing some basic ideas of classical formal logic. In this respect, the book can be used as a textbook and is also a fundamental reference source that should be on your bedside table.
