Stolen Focus, the book written by Johann Hari and translated by Barış Engin Aksoy... It is a must-read. The history and subject of political economy can be interpreted as the management and direction of human labor-time. The most insidious way to manage and direct labor-time is to control human attention and, ultimately, the mind.
They named the era we are in the "Information Age." In Turkish, it is often translated as the "Information Society" (Bilgi Toplumu). However, this is inaccurate. Knowledge (bilgi) is much more than information. The Turkish word "malumat" would have been more accurate than "enformasyon." We are drowning in information. Amidst this bombardment of information, our so-called "own preferences" are categorized with the help of algorithms, and we find ourselves trapped in an echo chamber and/or a message cell amidst an abundance of choices. The grave part of the matter is that we mistake this cell we are placed in for a shelter protecting us from a terrifying bombardment.
In such an era, our minds are being emasculated by "false flag" operations. We mistake the powerful for the opposition and the opposition for the powerful. Ultimately, we drift like a sailboat that has lost its compass/route.
In this process where we are deceived by false flag operations and sleight-of-hand games, there is still a possibility for enlightenment. Enis Musluoğlu, the founding editor-in-chief and proprietor of Dağarcık Türkiye, will meet with a distinguished audience at Tarihçi Kitabevi in Kadıköy Moda on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 16:00. The title of the talk is: "The New Dynamic of Geopolitics on the Edge of Wars: The Attention Economy." A very apt title. The attention and mental labor-time (should we call it "interpretation-time"?) of the masses have geopolitical significance. Moreover, the attention of the masses is a matter of survival for the programs and existence of political apparatuses (the primary one being the state).
Our attention is being stolen and exploited. So is our mind. A stolen mind, like any unsolved political operation, creates a hazy, foggy field of vision. Since it is not a group of people but a mechanism or a system that steals our minds and attention, it is not possible to say that the decision-makers of the system are very intelligent either.
I wish us days where we keep our wits about us.
Happy April 5th, Lawyers' Day. In a world where the voice of the defense is stifled, ears become deaf and eyes go blind. So that the masses do not cover their faces out of shame and fear, the voice of the defense must ring out louder with their hands. Happy Lawyers' Day to all lawyers who are not the voice of their master, but the defenders of justice and rights!
