'The Timing is Significant'

Don't leave your news choices to an algorithm - decide for yourself what you read. Add 12punto to your preferred sources!

When law becomes politicized, everything becomes politicized. Everything takes on a political meaning. A certain silence, a certain sound, a gesture, or a facial expression is interpreted as a calculated, planned political act.

Especially when polarization is added to this, things get complicated. Whether a certain politician speaks or does not speak about a certain event, or whether they tweet or do not tweet, is seen as 'significant'.

Every arrest, every detention, every court decision, every warrant... All of these are viewed as actions with significant timing.

Depending on the pole you belong to, you interpret the same event differently. Sometimes you over-interpret. Ultimately, a culture of lynching is added to the mix.

The reactions or lack of reactions from certain comedians and intellectuals are seen as grounds for condemnation and lynching.

A 'cancel culture' unique to our country is emerging.

Every individual is forced to speak on certain days and weeks, and is pressured to tweet. In the end, it will come down to tweeting just to go through the motions to avoid being lynched. What meaning will that have then?

When we lack the power to change the real situation or reality, we focus on discourse, reaction, or the lack thereof. We lash out at the people right next to us.

Instead of following a tactic of increasing friends and decreasing enemies, we lynch those right next to us because they do not react 'enough' or 'in time'. Well, who does this serve?

We saw the most extreme and absurd example of this in the Russia-Ukraine War. Valery Gergiev, the conductor of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, had not made any statement supporting the war or Russia's advance into Ukraine. But that was not enough. He was fired from his job because he did not condemn his homeland, Russia.

Examples of Russian literature were removed from school curricula in Italy.

In the pursuit of results on the battlefield, all cultural life, every place, and the most remote corners of life were turned into a battlefield.

We are experiencing something similar regarding gender in Western universities. For those who cannot fight against gender discrimination, racial discrimination, social violence, capitalism, and ultimately imperialism, trampling over discourse, reactions, and habits is presented as a prescription, as if to dilute this struggle. The worst part is that the masses are embracing this offer wholeheartedly.

May God grant us wisdom. I hope that instead of pushing away each other, our loved ones, and our potential friends, we turn toward fighting against real problems and the issues themselves with the broadest possible consensus.

Who knows... perhaps the timing of my article is also significant. Perhaps I, too, am serving someone.
