Our country has been experiencing a prolonged horizontal economic and fiscal crisis. While inflation in the economy shows no signs of slowing down, the economy continues to contract. As the economy shrinks, company closures and bankruptcies are on the rise. The government, meanwhile, is trying with all its might to collect taxes from companies and taxpayers to overcome the crisis.
Tax burdens have now become unsustainable for companies and taxpayers. One of the biggest reasons for this is that banks are tightening and sometimes even cutting off credit.
An interim solution is an urgent tax, insurance, Bağ-Kur premium, and inventory amnesty.
One of the most important bonds between the state and the citizen is tax. Tax is one of the most significant tools for the political power to fulfill its responsibilities to citizens, and for taxpayers to fulfill their responsibilities to the state. Collecting taxes at the right time is important. A tax amnesty has become essential for the Treasury to both increase tax revenues and for citizens to be relieved of their tax burden responsibilities.
Tax amnesties will also reduce the public sector's debt burden. Consequently, the interest burden will also decrease. It is a fact that tax amnesties have an effect that increases tax revenues.
One of the most important reasons for the political power to resort to a tax amnesty today is deflation and the economic crisis. If a tax amnesty is not issued today, taxpayers and companies will move into the informal economy in the coming period. An urgently issued tax amnesty will ensure social peace. It will serve the fair distribution of the tax burden. The criticism that it will be used as "political material for elections" will also disappear for a tax amnesty issued during this period. For this reason, criticisms that it has become a "fiscal rent" and "fiscal exploitation tool" will also not be applicable.
In terms of the political and economic crisis the society is currently experiencing; tax, insurance, Bağ-Kur, premium, and inventory amnesties will have a soothing effect in terms of social peace. A tax amnesty is not an amnesty that covers up provocative events in society; on the contrary, it can be a step that ensures things are forgotten and allows for looking to the future with hope.
Issuing a tax amnesty is a political decision. However, society is in dire need of a tax amnesty.
The long-standing inflation in our country and the recent deflation have, along with political and economic instabilities, led businesses to experience payment difficulties. This situation has caused businesses to be unable to fulfill their tax obligations on time and to cease their operations due to increasing tax debts and interest burdens.
For this reason, the facilities to be provided with a tax amnesty to be issued now will, on one hand, allow the taxpayer to return to economic life and continue their activities, and on the other hand, provide an increase in revenue for the state as the taxpayer fulfills their tax-related obligations. An urgently issued tax amnesty will both reduce informality, prevent tax losses and evasion, and ensure social peace.
