They are not buying cars in 2026 either

In my article from November 2025, I gave some advice to those planning to buy a car.

I said that if you are going to buy a car, you will be able to buy 2025 model cars cheaper in 2026, not in 2025.

Don't worry, all dealerships have cars in stock. And I said they have more than enough.

I said that the surplus of 2025 model cars would carry over into 2026.

I said that as the arrival of 2026 model cars approached, they would lower the prices of 2025 model cars.

I said they would offer discounts and promotions on 2025 model cars.

We are finishing the first quarter of 2026.

2026 model cars have started to take their place in dealerships.

Dealerships have started selling both 2025 and 2026 model cars.

They have started selling, but there are no sales.

Forget 2026 models; there is no one even buying the discounted 2025 model cars.

The automotive sector is going through its worst period.

Everyone has put their money into interest or gold and is waiting.

Right now, cash is king.

I had said that the Volkswagen Taigo was the best-selling car in terms of price-performance. Even for that model, there are 2025 models left in dealerships. You can imagine the rest.

The Volkswagen Polo is no longer in the Turkish market due to additional customs duties.

The last Polo was sold last week for 1 million 700 thousand TL.

The price of the SUV model Taigo is 1 million 600 thousand. It is being sold cheaper than the passenger Polo.

6 out of every 10 cars sold in Turkey are now SUVs. 10 years ago, this rate was 16 percent.

In 2025, 671 thousand 819 SUVs were sold.

This year, in January and February, 79 thousand 816 SUVs were sold.

Mini Cooper has also taken the lead in electric cars.

It broke a record by selling at 2 million 500 thousand TL.

Mini Cooper, which launched a major campaign with its Countryman model, sold 1,597 units in the first 2 months of the year.

Mini Cooper was followed by Jaecoo 7 with 1,478 units and BMW X1 with 1,127 units sold.

1 million new cars are sold annually in Turkey.

In 2026, 900 billion TL in revenue is expected from the Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV).

Speaking of ÖTV, perhaps you have heard it too.

A proposal has been submitted to Parliament to grant retirees the right to purchase a car without ÖTV on a one-time basis.

There are 17 million 700 thousand retirees in Turkey.

Don't you think it is a fantasy to expect 900 billion TL in revenue from ÖTV for this year while also expecting that 17 million 700 thousand retirees will be given cars without ÖTV?

Please, let's be a little realistic.
