Two-year waiting list for the 70 million lira Rolls-Royce

Picking up where we left off.

The other day, I was in the driver's seat of a car worth 1 million 600 thousand Euros, or 70 million TL.

With its sales price, the Rolls-Royce Ghost II model has entered the list of Turkey's most expensive automobiles at the top spot.

The launch of the Rolls-Royce Ghost II was held at Six Senses Kocataş Mansions, and the vehicle was introduced to guests by Hilal Aysal, General Manager of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Istanbul, and Frank Tiemann, Corporate Communications Director for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Central/Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

The Ghost Extended Series II draws attention with its cabin design, which features a 17-centimeter increase in rear passenger legroom.

The Black Badge Ghost Series II stands out with its driver-focused structure. The V12 engine, advanced chassis systems, 29 PS more power, and 50 Nm of torque provide the vehicle with a more dynamic driving experience.

In the car's interior design, a new rayon fabric made from bamboo, which Rolls-Royce calls Duality Twill, is used.

The material was inspired by the vast bamboo grove located in Le Jardin des Méditerranées on the Côte d’Azur, which is a neighbor to Sir Henry Royce’s former winter home, Villa Mimosa. The brand highlights that a Duality Twill interior design is created with 2.2 million stitches, the use of 18 kilometers of thread, and 20 hours of work.

This new version of the widely accepted Ghost, the Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II, will be offered for sale in three versions representing different characters: Ghost Series II, Ghost Extended Series II, and Black Badge Ghost Series II.

Rolls-Royce enthusiasts showed great interest in the launch of the car, which is green by day and black by night, held at Six Senses Kocataş Mansions.

Is the car beautiful? Yes, it is. Is it expensive? It is very expensive.

It is sold for 400 thousand Euros, or 18 million TL, in Europe, and for 300 thousand Pounds, or 16 million TL, in its home country of England.

In other words, what I am saying is that you can buy 4 Rolls-Royce Ghost IIs in Europe for the price of 1 in Turkey.

While the Rolls-Royce Ghost II is sold for 400 thousand Euros, our state, thank you very much, earns the price of exactly 3 Rolls-Royce Ghost IIs from this car without even lifting a finger.

It collects 1 million 200 thousand Euros as tax.

If you want to ride in this car in London or Paris instead of Istanbul, paying 400 thousand Euros instead of 1 million 600 thousand Euros is enough.

With 1 million Euros of the remaining 1 million 200 thousand Euros, you could buy a nice house and live comfortably with the remaining 200 thousand Euros.

However....

The fact that the Rolls-Royce is expensive has not intimidated Turkish customers at all.

Having 70 million TL is not enough to buy the car. You have to wait in line for 2 years to ride in a Rolls-Royce Ghost II.

A total of 5 thousand 700 Rolls-Royces were sold worldwide in 2024.

Those who want to ride in a Rolls-Royce are dying to get into this vehicle, even knowing they are under state scrutiny.

Besides this, those who ride in a Rolls-Royce are also dying to sell them.

There are 58 Rolls-Royces for sale in the listings. 17 of these are Rolls-Royce Ghosts.

Riding in a Rolls-Royce both draws attention and has an annual cost that makes one's jaw drop.

The annual cost of a Rolls-Royce is 100 thousand Euros. The insurance for the vehicle alone is 2 million TL.

We have started to see more Rolls-Royces on the streets of Istanbul than we even see on the streets of London and Europe.

One should also look at the bright side of selling such expensive cars with their taxes.

Our state knows well how to collect the taxes it cannot collect directly from the wealthy through indirect means.
