A child who is 'Yiğit' (brave) in every sense of the name

There has been another new wave at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB).

The municipality's human resources official, Yiğit Oğuz Duman, has been taken in for questioning.

If they had asked me, I would have told them there was no need.

He is the child of teacher parents.

Although his father passed away at an early age, he is still remembered and prayers are recited for his soul.

He touched the lives of many young people and served as a role model.

They say his grandfather was the same.

He is a graduate of Trabzon Anatolian High School.

He studied industrial engineering at Boğaziçi University, which requires a unique level of intelligence to get into.

In other words, he ranked highly in the university entrance exam.

He was among the brightest of our generation.

Since he is a year younger than me, we did not study together, but we have many mutual friends.

We are a generation that grew up with the scarce resources of the Cold War era.

We were the children of families who had no choice but to study.

Our families, like all families, were extremely sensitive about what is lawful and what is forbidden.

We knew what 'the right of the eye' meant; we wouldn't even steal a plum from anyone's garden.

Even if we gave in to temptation and stole one, our conscience would bother us, and we would go and either apologize or ask for forgiveness, and the garden owners would fill our pockets with fruit.

I still see the friends I grew up with.

We know who is where and what they are doing.

We keep track of each other, too.

In fact, yesterday, while I was eating Sunday 'gıymalı' (minced meat pastry) at Karpi, the sacred place for Trabzon natives in Beylerbeyi, someone greeted me, and although it was difficult, I recognized who it was.

A high school friend from 40 years ago.

He has progressed quite a bit and has done very good work.

In short, the children of our generation, whom I can vouch for, would never get involved in wrongdoings.

They would not reach for what is forbidden.

They would not violate anyone's rights.

They value merit.

They would never engage in empty, useless affairs.

They know what the state is.

They do not reach for what they have not earned.

Of course, many of our people are like this, but I am saying these things for my own generation.

We were programmed that way.

Therefore, let us be more sensitive toward precious children raised by this country who are 'Yiğit' (brave) in every sense of their name, as most of them have already emigrated abroad.

Let us not discourage the patriots who remain with such practices.

It is not easy to raise new ones.
