Today, in all the newspapers—though there are hardly any left—you will come across a July 15 article.
I suppose I should write one too, in keeping with the practice.
Even though we say it feels like just yesterday, this treacherous coup attempt is now entering its tenth year.
If you ask how I remember it, the so-called Muslim but essentially hypocritical head of the mechanical engineering department, who constantly lectured me on FETÖ etiquette and claimed back in 2010 that President Erdoğan did not have much time left to live, has been in hiding for 10 years.
As for the crypto-members, they are still hiding within academic staff positions.
Or so they think they are hiding.
They think the state does not know who they are.
They think no one is aware that they are restructuring and waiting for an opportunity to raise their heads again.
You keep thinking that.
However, unfortunately, I believe that neither the public nor the state has fully grasped the July 15 event.
Especially for the public, the metaphor of blind faith makes matters that should be clear even more deadlocked.
They do not understand, cannot understand, or do not want to understand—because it does not suit them—the dynamics of when F-16s were tearing through Ankara like cotton and trying to hold the Turkish people captive.
Of course, they will pay a heavy price for this as well.
If the state continues with this mindset and fails to purge these crypto-FETÖ traitors from the public sector, it will never be able to prevent information leaks to imperial powers within the corridors of Ankara and will be exposed to many more December 17-25 style events.
