We have written about this before. Others have written about it too.
The added value of Eskişehir's academic infrastructure has been consumed by Bilecik, Afyon, and Kütahya.
In fact, Istanbul and Ankara have also consumed it, and due to Anadolu University's inability to climb out of the hole it has fallen into, quite a few academics have migrated to universities in Istanbul and Ankara.
Those who do not believe me should take a look at the 7:23 AM train to Istanbul on a Monday.
They will see many familiar faces.
The failure to establish a foundation university in Eskişehir has led to the city's intellectual capital departing.
Yet, a city with the most accumulated and capable academic infrastructure in Turkey, not just the region, could have achieved this.
It did not.
But Istanbul did.
Tuzla Municipality invited the expertise that Eskişehir did not use, or could not use.
They asked how they should proceed if they wanted to establish a foundation university.
After the meeting, when they realized that the roadmap they had was entirely wrong, they offered the professors from Eskişehir the position of rector.
Although the intensity of their work caused them to politely decline this offer, they stated that they would provide support during the process.
As a result of the notes they took at the meeting, they drew up a new roadmap.
It seems they implemented the notes they took from the meeting, as they have established the foundation university.
Solving the financial problem allowed them to overcome the biggest obstacle in front of them.
It is clear that a new wave of migration from Eskişehir will also head toward this newly established foundation university.
