I was just about to get used to hunger when I died

The incredible high cost of food continues to ruin our nerves.

Even families who are relatively well-off are having difficulty eating as they used to.

It is no longer possible to buy the meat we used to eat—and by "used to," I mean just 3-5 years ago.

I follow the discount sections of large supermarkets.

There, it is possible to find cheap meatballs that release oil when cooked.

I have started buying the cheapest cheese, and even that costs quite a bit.

Don't ask about the ingredients; I just eat it as if it were cheese.

The cheapest olives, the cheapest tomato paste.

Since it is not really possible to buy fruit, I make do with cheap, concentrated fruit juice.

I won't even mention the chicken sausage I bought the other day as the cheapest option.

When I cooked it in the pan, an unfamiliar taste formed in my mouth.

While writing these, Nasrettin Hoca's story about his donkey came to my mind.

You know the story of Nasrettin Hoca.

He was giving his donkey less food every day to get it used to hunger.

He left it hungry for 1, 3, 5 days, no problem.

The Hoca was constantly reducing the feed.

Even though the neighbors said, "Don't do it, Hoca, don't," when they went to him on the 10th day, the donkey had kicked the bucket.

The neighbors complained, "Did you see, Hoca? The poor donkey died. Didn't you feel any pity for the poor creature, constantly reducing its barley?"

The Hoca, without losing his composure, turned to his neighbors and said, "But it was just about to get used to it."

Stay well.
