It really gets to me

This topic has been on the agenda for quite some time. With other issues intervening and the disparity reaching a dramatic level, it has become a duty to write about it.

The topic is academic salaries.

Well, salaries have now equalized at the bottom, but this news will still interest you.

A student I graduated in 2008 stopped by to see me. 

They are one of the students with whom I have maintained a connection through social media applications.

They were very close to me even when they were a student.

With both their English proficiency and their skill in informatics, they also helped me as an assistant.

They rarely left my office.

Our bond did not break after graduation either.

While looking for a job, they would constantly consult with me and ask me to be a reference.

They had been abroad for a long time.

As they reached maturity, they returned to the country.

They have turned 40.

They stopped by to tell me about the new job they found.

After some pleasantries, I asked about their salary.

It is a little more than two and a half times a professor's salary.

I congratulated them.

Even though I was envious, I didn't show it.

I also handed them my resume.

Just in case there might be a suitable position for me too.
