Let's not meet our maker while trying to lower inflation

My son, who works as a kitchen assistant and dishwasher in America for the summer, has been affected by the country's economic situation to the point that he also wants to learn German.

He called all the way from Montana, asking me to find a German course and register him so he can learn the language while continuing his university studies upon his return.

He says he wants to learn at least two languages so he doesn't end up as a supermarket cashier or a courier.

I decided to enroll him in a Goethe-Institut German course.

I looked it up online and examined it.

The entire registration process is digital and online.

According to what was written on the website, the system would open at a specific day and time for registration.

On the designated day and at the designated time, with my credit card in hand, I logged into the system.

However, I couldn't complete the registration because the system crashed due to extreme traffic.

Thousands of people like me were waiting at their computers with credit cards in hand, and the phones were jammed as well; no one at the Goethe-Institut could be reached.

It seems everyone in the country has caught the urge to learn German.

Why did I write this?

We have been struggling with the inflation monster for quite some time.

Inflation, which was the bane of our existence in the 90s, had been lying in ambush behind cover after the 2010s.

Interest rates had fallen, and spending had increased.

Whatever happened, happened in the last 4-5 years.

With the pandemic and wars, there was an economic contraction globally, and inflation exploded in Turkey.

The world, having overcome this contraction, is not experiencing deep problems now because it is accustomed to an austerity economy.

However, Turkey has turned into a horse mackerel with its throat squeezed.

"Lightning McQueen" has lined us all up against the wall, handcuffed our hands behind our backs, and tied ribbons over our eyes, all in the name of lowering inflation.

Like sacrificial lambs, we are waiting.

Supposedly, he is going to lower inflation.

Industrialists, tradespeople, fixed-income earners, and white-collar workers are all standing against the wall, waiting for the moment the bullet hits their foreheads.

The youth have already lost all hope and are busy crashing the Goethe-Institut's system.
