Necrotic Liberal Performance

I tell myself I should write once a week.

But the agenda does not allow it.

Writing a Monday column has become mandatory again following the news about baby-killing criminals.

Years ago in academia, they launched an absurd practice called the“performance system.”

It was said that the time for thinking, conceptual, and theoretical work had passed.

Contracts, salaries, and academic promotions have been tied to performance.

And they tied performance to the number of "articles" and "citations".

Citations made to articles have begun to compete with Hadith and theology.

My citation count Because I competed with Professor Sancar, I rose early in academia.

The system continuously added the citations describing the harsh criticisms directed at a model I had constructed incorrectly to my account as a plus, because it did not know how to define them and modeled them based on numbers.

Thanks to a system that could not understand the criticisms and considered a high citation count as valid, I both became a professor early and benefited significantly from incentives.

Those who established this system were unaware of what they were doing.

They also would not listen to reason.

 ***

These friends, who mostly spent many years abroad pursuing a doctorate on a scholarship below the poverty line, embraced the performance system with open arms.

They wanted to have their cake and eat it too.

Academics like us, who do their work without losing the spirit of the profession, were suddenly pushed out of the system.

On the boards, the "Speak as much as you publish" crowd took the majority.

No matter how much we said "this is not a bolt factory"” even though we said that, we could not make our voices heard.

Necrotic minds that tie performance to scores have completely taken over the system.

I say necrotic because young minds that spend many years with an income below the starvation level, especially in foreign countries, are said to become necrotic.

These brains, unable to enter social environments after suffering from food deprivation, are said to decay rapidly.

Even if their income level increases later and they consume plenty of protein, the damage caused by the lack of B12 in their youth remains permanent. It is not very possible for the brain to return to its former state and think analytically again.  not very possible.

Despite this, these friends have risen to the highest positions.

They have also rotted the system.

Why did I write these things?

This performance system, which is applied even more ruthlessly to doctors, has brought us to where we are today.

It has evolved into a system that would kill babies alive.

Doctors who did not admit patients, did not keep them under observation, did not perform surgeries, or in short, did not inflate the bill, were either pushed out, had their income reduced, or had their academic advancement delayed on the grounds that their performance was low.

We thought that we, the “Theoretical Academics” like us, had lost.

It turns out thatNecrotic Liberalsaside, we have lost as a country.
