Our region has been the scene of endless friction for thousands of years.
Arabs, Persians, and Russians are the ones most intertwined with the Turks.
Stories of Shah Ismail, Yavuz's campaigns to the east, the burning and the destruction.
The Turkish public, caught between official history and real history.
They don't like to read anyway.
They generally want to listen to and learn from pre-analyzed, bite-sized information, like taking an aspirin.
It suits them not to rack their brains.
And most of the time, when they listen to biased, incompetent figures, they get confused about what to believe and what not to believe.
Then they just give up.
While their minds were mostly filled with the Iran-Iraq war, they learned that in recent years, Iran has been supporting groups such as Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Houthis in Yemen, and Hashd al-Shaabi in Iraq, Syria, and Bahrain.
They also saw that without firing a single shot, Iran had its eternal and everlasting enemy, the Iraqi leader, hanged by its other adversary, America.
Later, they learned that a significantly large portion of the Iranian population is Turkish.
They watched their military parades featuring nuclear weapons, missiles, and rockets held on important days.
Anyway, I won't drag this out too long,
Until I read Bernard Lewis, got to know the trained Iranian minds who were kicked out of their country and are now in America and Europe, and got close to the dull-eyed students coming from Iran who were not programmed to think, I didn't really know what was what.
With the impression I gained from Bernard Lewis's books, from Iranian intellectuals and scientists who fled to the West, and from Iranian students, I was not at all surprised that they found their president, who died in a helicopter crash, with "Turkish assistance," and after receiving the wreckage coordinates from a "Turkish Akıncı," they claimed, "No, we found it ourselves," once they had gotten what they needed.
