I lived in the New Jersey and New York area for years. I both studied and worked there. I never engaged in any behavior that would trouble the authorities.
We worked, we earned, we ate, we drank.
In fact, it is rarely seen that immigrants like us cause problems in the places they migrate to.
They live more timidly.
Even if the local population does not like it, they do not say much.
They live at a different frequency within the same environment.
They have little interaction or business with the public, except for the immigration office.
There is no place for them to apply to become civil servants.
They do not calculate how they will retire or what their pension will be.
They try to live in their own isolated environments.
That is, as much as they can, if you can call it living.
However, they have to drive. Without a car, you cannot go to the grocery store or to work.
Therefore, they are forced into contact with the police, that is, the public, in traffic.
The American police, unfortunately, are very harsh. There is zero tolerance. They are especially harsher toward Black people and immigrants.
They never hesitate to pull the trigger in the face of a simple traffic violation.
Although they do not treat white Americans with the same harshness, they recently did not hesitate to rain bullets on a blonde Australian WASP in broad daylight.
Similarly, instead of helping a white American who set himself on fire out of sensitivity regarding the Palestinian issue, they drew their weapons on the citizen who was melting away in flames.
The most important reason for returning from America, the land of dreams and opportunities, was the police.
Last night, in the Kavacık area, during a simple traffic altercation, the police shot and killed a famous architect of ours, an ITU graduate born in 1938, 87 years old, by firing at his luxury vehicle.
Are we going to leave here too?
