Sevim, run, the enemy of the regime is here

I waited for a day.

To see what would be written and drawn about November 10.

Quite a few technical, theoretical, and historical texts have been written about the passing of the Great Atatürk.

Each one is more instructive than the last.

Since I am a civil engineer, my mind is filled more with technical terminology.

My processor for historical data, equations, and functions is very weak.

For that reason, let me contribute to the discussion about November 10 and the Great Leader Atatürk by sharing a memory of mine.

Historians have already done their part.

It has been 86 years since Atatürk left us.

Dramatic changes have occurred in the world since his death.

Hitler stained Europe with blood and turned it upside down.

Millions of people, including children, lost their lives.

Then came the Cold War.

Oppressive eras.

The collapse of the Soviet Bloc.

Following heavy fascism, the 3rd and 4th Industrial Revolutions centered in America.

Computers, smart systems, robotics, and chips.

Then, America coming right to our doorstep and playing cowboy.

The Gulf Wars.

The Arab Spring and Muslims slaughtering each other.

The prevention of the greatest coup of the last millennium, which came from Pennsylvania.

After all these dynamic processes, the "Wounded Modern Republic of Turkey" continues on its path, albeit with difficulty.

We are the 3rd generation of this Republic.

We studied in the schools that the Republic reached all the way to the villages.

Therefore, we all became wholeheartedly attached to Atatürk, the Republic, and its Revolutions.

Of course, there were those who did not.

Those who did not feel they belonged to Modern Turkey and pursued a counter-revolution struck a harsh blow on July 15, in the 93rd year of the Republic.

But they were defeated.

There is no one who does not know that this group is an enemy of the Republic.

But for the first time in my life, there is also a different group that has benefited the most from the blessings of the Republic, lived in the center, and become wealthy.

They are called the 2nd Republicans.

I met these people 25 years ago when I started working at Anadolu University.

These were times when we didn't yet know what a 2nd Republican meant.

At least I didn't.

They grew up in the epicenter of the country and studied at its best universities.

Not only themselves, but their ancestors were also literate.

They were nourished not from the capillaries of the Republic like me, but from its aorta.

They became wealthy, settled into state positions before me, and grew fat.

Years ago, in a tavern where we met by chance, late at night, their conversations began to grate on my ears.

I thought to myself, it must be the effect of the rakı.

We were still young, we didn't have much of a filter.

Those were the years when we would down a drink for the road.

Otherwise, it wasn't very normal for contemporary-looking and genuinely modern women, who worked at universities using the opportunities of the Republic, to curse at Atatürk at a rakı table.

As the heavy insults against Atatürk and the Republic at the table continued to increase, I must have stood up, perhaps under the influence of alcohol.

I shouted, "Are you enemies of the regime?"

I don't remember it very well.

My friends told me later.

Anyway, these friends made fun of me for years;

Everywhere they saw me, in the cafeteria, at meetings, they harassed me by saying, "The Enemy of the Regime has arrived."

We didn't really come together in social settings after that evening anyway.

I was labeled as the guardian of fascism.

And what happened later?

These male and female academics, who were nourished from the heart of the Republic, took the side of the Pennsylvanians in the rectorate elections.

They were very happy when the FETÖ members took over the Rectorate.

They even popped champagne on campus with the Neanderthals because the fascists had been kicked out.

After all, their enemies were the same when it came to destroying the republic.

Then they became "signatories" and were kicked out the door overnight by the FETÖ members they supported, and their 30 years of hard work were wasted.

Most of them were Galatasaray fans.

It was a pity.
