Election day has arrived in America. The election is on Tuesday. For some reason, this election is not making as much news in Turkey as it used to.
Back in the saxophonist's time, the place was falling apart.
When the subsequent candidates were elderly, the libidos dropped.
The excitement is gone.
Still, I decided to write a piece for sister Keriman.
Pollsters are giving the Manhattan contractor a chance.
I, however, think sister Keriman will win the election.
Since I don't trust the pollsters, I called an old friend.
When I say old friend, I don't mean those shipwrecked Turks.
When I was a poor student, I had an American farm girl as a girlfriend.
She caught me on the subway.
Her family liked me so much that they were constantly inviting me to their home.
They must have seen me as naive.
We would eat and drink.
When I went from my basement apartment to their farm, I would feel different too.
The grill would be lit, and the beef sausages would make my mouth water.
I would act as if it were normal for me, never giving anything away.
I would try to create an air that I had spent my life by the grill.
Unable to resist the sizzling steaks, I would eat more than anyone else, two or three at a time, without realizing that my poverty was becoming obvious.
I suppose they were trying to warn their daughter, thinking she might get into trouble.
Look, they were probably signaling to their daughter on the sly, like, "He's eating like a hungry mouse that fell into a grain silo, dump this poor immigrant," I think.
Let me not drag it out too much, lest our state, resembling an Afghan shepherd, be revealed.
In the end, we were dumped, of course, but it's not like we didn't load up on quite a bit of protein.
And we did love and were loved a little, of course.
I won't go into much more detail; fights break out at home later.
Anyway, I called my old friend to calculate what would happen in the election.
I am just repeating what she said.
She said they are tired of the blonde-haired contractor.
The American farmers won't be giving their support like they used to.
If he is elected, there are many who are thinking of leaving the country.
There is concern that their 250-year-old democratic heritage would be irreparably damaged.
He would manage America like a company again.
He could close the great country off to the world and lower its production power.
Instead of a meritocracy, friends, acquaintances, and relatives could come in.
More immigrants could come to the country, and they could take the jobs of Americans.
An excessive flow of immigrants could create a security problem.
Immigrants could have many children to get residence permits and put the healthcare system in trouble.
The integration of immigrants is not really possible; even after years, they don't become American.
Poverty could increase.
I listened to quite a few complaints and understood that the anxiety is at its peak.
In short, the impression I got is,
Sister Keriman will win this election one way or another.
